Howard Washington Picks Bulldogs

Just two weeks ago Butler got it’s first commitment for 2016 in 4 star center Joey Brunk. It was thought a 4 star point guard might not be too far behind. At that time, nobody expected that 4 star point guard to be Howard Washington, but you won’t find any Bulldog fans complaining. The 6’2″ point guard made the announcement earlier this afternoon that he will be a Butler Bulldog. The Buffalo native is averaging 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists playing for Albany City Rocks in the Nike EYBL this summer. He plays high school basketball for Montverde Academy in Florida, last year’s national champions.

“My family and I just felt like it was the best fit. It’s a great opportunity. Going in to a starting position or playing a lot, it it just felt like it was the best fit for me.” Washington told The Buffalo News. “Coach’s exact words were that literally as soon as I step foot on campus I’ll be expected to take on a big role. If not starting, heavy minutes — and just lead us to win.”

Washington chose Butler over a long list of other offers, including Big East rivals Xavier and DePaul. He is ranked 83rd in the country by Rivals.com. He will compete with senior transfers Tyler Lewis and Kethan Savage for minutes at the point guard and shooting guard positions.

Butler’s 2016 class, already set up to be it’s highest ranked class in program history, still has 3 open spots remaining. After addressing the roster’s biggest needs in point guard and center, it’s unsure what the coaching staff will look to focus on next. Regardless, this has been a very successful summer for Chris Holtmann and the Butler Bulldogs.
