"Robbing, assaulting, killing, and other crimes committed again people are bad things. Why do folks have to act like Pavlov's dog and behave exactly as they have been conditioned to by the media and act as if some crimes are on some completely different level of heinousness—one so forbidden that it mustn't be spoken of?
Let's consider for a moment another awful crime that ruins lives: falsely accusing a person of a serious crime. Especially a serious crime that is such a white-hot-button issue that the mere mention of that crime can ruin an innocent person's life.
This kneejerk overreaction is a very serious problem in our society. Alleged victims of "certain crimes" have their names withheld by the media. Yet the alleged perpetrator of such a crime gets their name and photo splashed all over newspapers and webpages even though they are innocent. What led to the media being so unfair?"
Let's see, I personally would not place the offense of robbery in the same sentence as killing and sexual assault.
Secondly, very rarely are sexual assaults reported that do not have truth associated with them. If something is not proven, it is typically because a person withdrew their complaint due to fear and /0r humiliation, or waited too long to report.
Thirdly, I agree that false accusations can occur and are unconscionable.
Fourth, I am more concerned about the knee-jerk response of college aged guys to blame the girl, say she was drunk, and the culture of taking advantage of women in compromised positions. No, the women do not share equal blame with the man involved.
Only after someone has been formally charged (supposedly with compelling evidence) does their name appear in the paper. This is true of even petty crimes, much less felonies. It should be obvious to you why the "victim's" name does not appear at his, or her, request. She/he has not been charged, the least of the reasons.
Just viewing this academically on a point by point basis with your commentary.

Since everyone is here, I've always wondered...do y'all favor soft flour or soft corn tortillas for your tacos?
Get at me on twitter @deadboltwillie
I'm partial to soft flour tortillas.
Sexual assault rumors? That would certainly explain the suspension better than a film room incident or skipping class. And I thought the worst would be he failed a drug test.
Well regardless of whether the rumor is true or not, the rumor is out there. Why not release a statement or hold a news conference w/ Barry, Brandon and Kam, acknowledge the rumor, and Kam can profess his innocence? I know there are certainly some ramifications to this but isn't it better to be in front of the situation and kinda in control of it than rather hoping it goes away quietly??? (let the ripping begin)
