I figure this thread needs to go up at some point. ChiDawg already posted the bracket schedule, but here it is again: https://www.bigeast.com/news/2021/2/26/big-east-announces-mens-basketball-tournament-bracket.aspx Let the games begin!
I literally just now was running through scenarios. I didn’t see any way we don’t finish 9 or 10 and play one of GT/PC/SJU. Does that seem right? Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
It's bullshiite but yes, it's right. Even if we win Saturday I think 8 is the ceiling. Which being one of the teams that completed the schedule seems very unrewarding. Either way, looks like there will be small attendance allowed for special invites and families. No public selling...which, dumb. https://www.bigeast.com/news/2021/3...st-announces-tournament-attendance-plans.aspx
Ok there is a chance at a 7. We'd have to win and providence lose out and Gtown loses their last game...that's our ceiling though and it takes winning in a building we cannot win in lately.
So, as has been pointed out, we will finish 7, 8, or 9. Forget the probabilities of each for the moment. So this means we will play St. Johns, Marquette, Providence, or G'town in an opening round game. Which of these teams would you like to see us play? (And forget about whom we would have to play next round.)
Yeah I was already marking us down as a loss and georgetown down with a loss at uconn when I went over things. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
This site is amazing year after year to figure out all the scenarios. http://bball.notnothing.net/bigeast.php?sport=mbb
Thanks I was trying to find this and couldn’t so ended up just coding it into excel which is obviously more complex Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
If it is as bad as it seemed, game changer. Wide open tournament. I'd tab Uconn as the faves if he's out.
It appeared to be a hyperextension, but that is pure speculation. Certainly puts Nova in a precarious position. Whether it opens the door for another team remains to be seen nor would I count Jay Wright out just yet.
Honestly, I’m just hoping for a 7 or 10 seed so I can actually watch the games... I can’t get out of work to watch a 3 pm and noon game on Wednesday/Thursday. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
Oh goodie, we have the chance to play with like 3 players and get waxed by Xavier...again. Can't wait. 2 out of the last 3 years we've finished second to last in the league. So that's something. Hooray us? Seriously, forfeit.
Xavier is like a fringe top 60 team. They can lose to anyone (ask Bradley, Toledo, and Eastern Kentucky), even a short handed bad team. Not much downside to losing, and the upside is blocking them from the tourney.
Marquette beating X yesterday was a killer for Butler. It dropped Dawgs into the 10 seed and IF the team somehow managed to beat X, the Dawgs get Creighton again. If Marquette lost yesterday, Dawgs were a 9 seed and IF the Dawgs beat Georgetown, Dawgs would have had Nova. Nova without Gillespie. I know Dawgs are down to David, Campbell and some others at this point, but I would rather take my chances against Nova minus Gillespie than Creighton firing on all cylinders. And Dawgs have a better chance of beating Georgetown in the 8/9 game than beating X in the 7/10 game.
In theory yes...I'd love to punk them. But I just think it's half embarrassing walking into a conference tournament with literally 5 healthy scholarship players. I guess 6 if you count JMM. Which sucks because of the "feel good" of the SH and Nova games...it's one step forward and two back this year. Just one thing after another. I've never felt the "I just want this season to be over" feeling until about halftime of yesterday's game. It's just been too depressing.
