Let the carousel begin! Boston College fired Jim Christian. Pretty ****ty to do it during the season, IMO. At least wait until after. Could be an interesting search.
Saw a tweet last night saying that if Brad gets the axe, he’s lined up to take the BC job so he can stay in Boston. I kid you not.
BC is a terrible job. The entire athletics department is a mess. I expect the carousel this year will be much quieter than normal, like last year, as a lot of coaches who normally would be on the hot seat get a pass.
They'll have to get in line. Mark Titus is already teeing up IU fans: I sincerely doubt that Boston would can Stevens after this year, but if they do, there will be a ton of NBA teams in line for his services, forget college teams.
I admit to being in the dark regarding BC basketball - can someone tell me when they were a "force" in the basketball world?
If I remember correctly, the 2001-2002 team hovered in and around (mostly in) the top ten all year and got bounced by Hampton, a 15 seed, in the first round. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
In '01 (15) Hampton upset (2) Iowa State and one of the Hampton players lifted up Head Coach Steve Merfeld - making the oft used a March Madness clip. Merfeld went on to Coach Evansville. In the 03 and 04 Butler-Evansville games Merfeld enjoyed doing "crowd-work" with his hecklers at Hinkle. Wally Cox really gave 'lil Steve some hell. Steve Merfeld is an AC at Creighton now.
That was the game and a year off. Thanks for keeping me honest. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
They were solid when they had Jared Dudley. 2004-2006. They made the 2006 sweet 16 and lost in OT to a really good nova team with Randy Foye and Kyle Lowry. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
Local sports talkers, who are admittedly sports talkers, were speculating today that B.C. wants to go ahead and shut it down for the year - the other day they only had four scholarship players available between injuries, transfers and Covid protocols - but the ACC is pressuring them to finish out the season and that may have had something to do with Christian's early firing. Also interesting to hear them talk about Wes Miller at UNCG, who is almost certainly going to finally get a high major opportunity this off season, staying the heck away from the B.C. job despite it being an otherwise good fit because the administration there is such a disaster.
Albany let Will Brown go after three losing seasons. I thought he did a good job there: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...-albany-men-college-basketball-coach-20-years
Gotta love the qualifiers. MAYBE there will be a major shakeup coming soon in the Big East. IF there is, you heard it here first. IF there's not, well, we still aren't wrong.
