Would they try to hire Luke Walton and see if he wants to get back to college? Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
Shrewsberry has one spot left on his staff to fill, but what's interesting is apparently he's hired Brian Snow as a recruiting coordinator. Normally, only see those in football, where there's 85 scholarship players vs 13. The big issue for Snow now since he's not an assistant coach, he can't go out in person to evaluate/scout players. https://hoopdirt.com/daily-dirt-4-6-21/
Connections galore, but that guy’s a jackass. Sent from my iPhone, so it’s probably not written all that well
Cincinnati Bearcats fire men's basketball coach John Brannen following investigation into program. Cincinnati athletic director John Cunningham announced the move in a letter to the program's supporters. "The decision to move in a new direction comes after a thorough review of our program, which included conversations with student-athletes, coaches and staff, as well as with Coach Brannen," Cunningham said. "Ultimately, the University is acting in the best interests of our student-athletes and of the institution, and this decision is reflective of our commitment to both, as well as to our values that we hold dear. As this is a personnel matter, we are unable to provide further details of the program review or the decision. "We will work quickly but judiciously in finding a new head coach. With a passionate fan base, strong tradition and history, elite facilities, and a collective commitment to success, we are confident that we will have a deep pool of candidates. We will continue to engage with and support our student-athletes during this transition." Archie Miller is being thrown around as a possible replacement along with Frank Martin; however he just signed a 2-year extension at South Carolina
Frank Martin in Cincy would make a lot of sense. I wonder if they look to the other side of the state at Dennis Gates. I'm a little surprised he didn't already get one of the bigger openings this year.
Looks like Cincinatti is hiring Wes Miller. I'm a fan of his and look forward to seeing what he can do at a bigger school. And Arizona lures Tommy Lloyd out of Spokane:
The Arizona hire surprises me a lot. I am sure Lloyd is great but it seems like they played it pretty safe Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
There aren't many better recruiters than Lloyd. I think I remember reading that when most P5 coaches saw him watching a guy they knew the kid was as good as gone. In terms of coaching, not as sure there, but Arizona has enough money to hire the right assistants if he does need help there. Honestly interested to see what happens with Gonzaga's recruiting. They've always had good players, but the level of guys they've gotten the last few years has been insane, and Lloyd has been a big part of that.
Yea, This is going to hurt Gonzaga big time. That guy is the best recruiter on the planet. Like you say Arizona has money to pay for an offensive and defensive coordinator
He was the top international recruiter around, and Zags really took a big step due to international guys: Pangos, Olynyk, Sabonis, Karnowski, Petrusev, Hachimura, Ayayi. And apparently he was key in getting Suggs, the 5-star they just got out of Omaha, and maybe this Chet Holmgren. So it will hurt, but they are a brand now, and as long as Few is there, they should be fine. Arizona is making a smart move - hire the guy who can stock them with 5-star talent and hope he can coach or put a couple XO guys around him.
U of A is still accused of 5 Level 1 recruiting violations. So NAU better watch out. No, Lloyd is going to need all the legal persuasive skills he's got. It's not like other are going to stop informing kids about that.
According to Woj Stevens turned down 7 years 70 million from iu Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
Honestly mind boggling he turned it down. He must REALLY not want to be a college coach (at least in Bloomington).
I disagree that it is mind boggling. Going from $6.5-$7.0 to $10 is not like going from $65,000-$70,000 to $100,000. he already has F you money. One of the things he hated most about college was recruiting. He would have to be doing that again. We all know the IU fan base is unreasonable. Why would he want to go there? I'm not sure how mind-boggling this is, honestly. I really don't know if you will see NBA coaches return to college unless they aren't welcome in the pros anymore.
True, fair. My point was simply that turning down an extra several million a year really underscores how much he *didnt* want the job, because turning down that kind of money isn’t easy no matter your income. Example: Hayward wanted to play for the pacers. The hornets offered him 4 mil more per year. He went to Charlotte. And he’s wayyyyy wealthier than Brad.
