Does anyone have any tips for attending the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament? We are thinking of taking a family of 5. First time trip to the Bahamas. The two primary things I'm interested in are where to stay and how best to buy tickets to the games Butler plays in. What's the best place for a family of 5 to stay on the Atlantis property? Based on the availability I've seen, however, staying on the Atlantis property may not be a possibility. Has anyone stayed at another resort that is still convenient for getting over to Atlantis for the games? Is there a good way to buy tickets if you don't buy an Atlantis package and stay at the resort?

We stayed on the resort but in one of the lowest end hotels - I think the Coral. Honestly you spend zero time in your room so I don’t understand why people splurge for upgrades. It is (or least was) part of Marriott Bonvoy so if you have status you can sometimes get an upgrade or deal. We got a water view upgrade.

The resort is great for all ages. We never grew bored with the activities and water sports. The food is good to very good for the price (meaning you’re going to be paying top dollar for decent to very good food). There are plenty of dining options.

There are kid zones where you can drop kids off if you want an adult dinner or night out.

The games are great. It’s basically a hotel ballroom. Indiana has junior high gyms that are bigger. And you will see all the players and coaches out and about all the time. My son was around 10 at the time and got probably at least a hundred autographs.

We got tickets through our booster club pretty easily. They also set up a nice Thanksgiving dinner with the team/staff to you could attend.

Best to stay on Paradise Island for convenience and experience like posted above ^. But if affordability is an issue, there are plenty of other resorts, and nothing is that far. I think we stayed when I was a kid on cable beach, and there are taxis and a bus system to Paradise Island. It’s like 10 miles away. So not really any different than driving to Hinkle or taking the train to MSG. No guarantee those resorts will be cheaper, but if they are, it’s not a massive headache.

I would concur with all of these observations.

We were newbie's to the BFA in 2018 and we booked our own deal with Marriot rewards prior to Alumni Club putting a package together. If you are really going to see ALL of the basketball (not just Butler), be sure to choose a package with all the games included (which is about double the ticket cost but well worth it if you want to watch college basketball).

I strongly agree with Boiler that splurging on rooms is rather a waste. You spend most of the time either going to basketball, going to the beach, going to a special event (be sure to sign up for the Thanksgiving Dinner w/Coaches) or special activity (Dolphin experience, Lagoon Snorkeling, etc.). The room general becomes a place to shower and sleep.

Also don't splurge on ticket location. Generally after the first couple of games, attendance falls off and you can find really good open seats.

Any specific questions, just ask. Like Boiler, happy to share our experience.

And yes, we are going back and taking our adult children!

Dining has many more options than in the past. I'd encourage to venture beyond the island and enjoy some local cuisine. Never a dull moment for sure.

I've been to Nassau twice. Never stayed at Atlantis but places a few miles away that had beach access and pretty much all you could want. I'm going to *try* and convince the crew to do this come November but it's one on three so I don't think it flies.

Whoever hasn't been to the Bahamas you'll love it. Laid back...tons of fun culture and going "into town" in Nassau is actually pretty wild. Plenty of resorts though and places to stay. Atlantis is awesome but it's expensive as holy hell. You can use your coin more wisely and get an uber/cab to the games. Nothing, as was said, is too far.

Try to sit in the Atlantis sportsbook, look over Dan Dakich shoulder at his betting stubs and take the other side. Cheer actively against Dakich's picks until he is glaring at you and then cash out for $985.

If the whole board did this and bet at Willis levels, we’d collectively have enough money to get Butler that dedicated practice facility and a basketball training table and some locker room upgrades.

With the Hunter commitment Mrs. DawgWild has signed off on the Bahamas. Let's start planning this party! We are Phi Delt and Kappa, class of 1970. Could be an epic time!

I think you'll see a huge Butler presence there. The excitement about the changes/additions, it's put a breath of new air into the program and people will be opening up their purse strings be there.

The amenities at Atlantis are fabulous and free for those stay there. The cuisine though is too rich for my blood and frankly only fair. If you do stay somewhere else, day passes are available. Between the aquarium and water park, either or both are well worth the cost. I have stayed at Atlantis and once was enough. My recommendation would be to stay elsewhere and purchase day passes. Perhaps BU will have a package deal?

I'll agree plenty of good places to stay that won't obliterate your funds. And frankly more fun. A beachfront resort is an easy get there.

From what I recall from a business meeting we had there, be sure to budget for expensive taxi rides across the bridge to Atlantis.

I haven't been to Nassau in a few years but I'd expect Uber and Lyft operate there by now. You're not wrong, I remember staying one time at Nassau Beach Club (this is roughly 10 or so years) and just getting a cab from there to the city/town was pretty expensive (luckily my brother and I had a good run at the craps table so, it wasn't our money). Nothing is going to be cheap of course but I think your money goes further staying somewhere else. JMO.

That well may be true now. The cab ride we took was from Atlantis to an amazing restaurant (our CFO had dual citizenship in Bahamas and knew of this place) called the Poop Deck. I highly recommend it if you get the chance. I had the whole hog-nosed snapper.
