There's a little more to this story. Jalen Blackmon from Marion, who battled Brown for the state scoring lead throughout their high school careers and joined him in trying to top Damon Bailey's all-time scoring mark, also is transferring to Stetson, leaving Bryce Drew's Grand Canyon team. https://news.yahoo.com/doyel-plot-twist-luke-brown-205804098.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall
While he may not be considered a PG, but after signing with BU Matta said Hunter is an "experienced floor general" who will bring leadership on the court and in the locker room.
Just out of curiosity, how may of the 1500 who entered the portal actually wind up going to a new team? Your coverage appears to mention about 50 guys - what about the rest? How many others also join new schools -] Do many just go back to their original school? Are there some that simply disappear into the ether?
1,500. Isn't that insane! Transfer portal intertwined with NIL in college sports. What could possibly go wrong!
it may take a few years, but the NIL in college basketball is going to bubble out. It may make a little sense for the top 20 or so players in college basketball, they may be able to turn around some sort of ROI. But college basketball isnt college football, it is very much a niche market for 11/12 of the year. NIL is as much a function of the people / companies providing the money as the players using it and the ROI realities are going to decimate that pool. It's the Wild West right now, but things will come back to equilibrium
That's one of the most rational posts I've seen about this whole NIL controversy. Sure, there will be some corruption under the new framework, but there was also corruption under the previous framework. At the end of the day, the top players will still likely go to the most prestigious and reputable schools. I don't see the new transfer rules OR the NIL really disrupting the parity in college sports much, if any, more than it has been up until now.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-b...al-cycle-illinois-miami-land-potential-stars/ In this article, CBS Sports identified what it thought were 9 winners and 6 losers in the post-season transfer market. The good news: Butler was a "winner". The not-so-good news: 3 of the other 8 "winners" (and none of the "losers") were Big East foes: Providence, Creighton, and St. John's. The Big East is going to be a BEast again this year.
What they probably didn’t list in their “winners” critique was Butler’s upgrade in their coaching staff. Sent from my iPad using Butler Hoops mobile app
