The fact of the matter is he DID hit his fiancé and put his hands around her neck. Now he said it was in self defense and she acknowledged and withdrew the charges sure. But violence definitely went down, charges or not and there are photographic evidence in that. Also I’m sure many would “withdraw” their report too if, say, you would get $$$ to do so or are guilt tripped into it because it would ruin the other person’s career who you love. Unequivocally and emphatically: Yes. Oats is a sleezebag. Beard is an abuser. I wouldn't want either coaching my kid, but give me the choice between someone who physically hurts the people in their life and someone who covers for their players behavior for their own gain, I'll take the latter every single time.
Won’t argue with you because I don’t know what happened down there . I’ve never seen pictures nor followed it other than what I read in the Athletic and other sports sites. As far as I know there were two people that know for sure. I’m not one of them. I don’t know nor really care what happens to him or what happens to whomever hires him.
If Alabama wins the national championship it should have a huge black ball next to the title. What Oats did and the University failed to do is disgusting. Do you think if Miller had been a bench sitter he would still be on the team? Of course not. A woman was killed with his gun and all he said is “ I’m sorry”. He would have been off my team the next morning and I would have suspended Oats for the rest of the season pending a complete investigation of who he recruited and what has transpired. But this is Alabama and the SEC so it won’t happen.
Who exactly are you arguing with here? No one here is defending bama, and I have no idea what it has to do with ole miss and Beard.
did I say it had anything to do with Beard but now that you brought it up does it surprise you that another SEC school would hire Beard? Doesn’t me. Apparently guys like him, Oats, Cade are good to go as long as they can win. Read the thread just above.
Want to clarify 1 point. It was not Millier's gun. Darius Miles left his gun in the back of Miller's car and Miller drove it back to him. That is the official record. If he was a bench warmer, I still don't think Miller would be off the team. After Xavier shunned Dez Well's related to a debunked rape allegation, Well's successfully settled with Xavier. Personally, the way AL, Oates, and Miller handled the whole murder was classless, arrogant, and void of empathy, but suspending or throwing players and/or coaches off a team without due process will cost a school 10's millions of dollars in lawsuits and lost financial opportunity. I hope AL loses in the 1st round.
What can be criminally prosecuted and what is a violation of University athletic code of conduct are two different things. If he didn’t violate any codes, then they have a bigger problem at hand—namely a culture that isn’t well defined or sufficiently ethical/moral.
I can agree with that. Guess I have always believed in principles , morals and doing the right thing even if there isn’t any criminal wrong doing. Is suspending a legal issue?
Suspending is not a legal issue. Players get suspended all the time with out any criminal accusations. There have been plenty of times players get suspended for breaking curfew or other minor rules. Alabama is perfectly within their rights to suspend Miller. But they’re letting him play because winning is more important than a murder investigation.
Every Div 1, 2, 3 and NAIA school I have known and coached at has a code of conduct that has a zero tolerance for weapons...it truly is astounding what is happening here, if you have no clue about the inner working of College athletics you might not have the same opinion but not one person I have talked to about the situation has said they he would be allowed to play on their team as it would be a clear violation of team & university code of conduct. Awe inspiring the levels that Alabama sports are...
Doesn't need to be better, just needs to make the tournament most of the time, which Holtmann can do. Plus you always try and get out of town before your bosses force you out. Worked out pretty well for Shaka Smart.
I think fit is important for coaches, and Holt is a much better fit at ND than OSU. Makes no sense, other than fit, for a coach to be great at VCU and Marquette and so-so at Texas, for instance. Would Painter be better at Kentucky than Purdue? I kinda doubt it.
Maybe I'm being too simplistic, but I don't really see a huge difference athletically between ND and OSU. They're both football-first schools with delusional, demanding fanbases and are the quasi-professional team in their city, ND even more so. I get the school environments are quite different, though.
Theyre both football first but I think that’s about where the similarities end. The athletic department culture and demands of OSU versus ND are drastically different. For instance, neither Brey nor Kelly would’ve lasted 5 years at OSU with the results they had, and each went a decade+ at south bend.
If holtman leaves does Ohio state go after sean Miller or Rick pitino? Take a huge swing …… Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
