Perfectly said. Kids and adults get fevers, get the sniffles, cough...we gotta get past the thought that every bad cough we here we run for the hills. Unfortunately this was unleashed upon us and we all need to learn (all ages) to do what we can but also move forward, understanding it's just gonna be a thing. We have to keep adjusting and making the right, but sane moves/decisions.
Well they did a number on Uconn, on UConn's home court, so I think they deserve it. That guy Watson is a bear on the boards, they show him at 260 lbs, but I'm guessing he's closer to 275 - he won't make our life pleasant, we have no one who can deal with him.
What’s even harder to believe - Ed Cooley is obviously a good coach and his teams do many things well, and yet it hasn’t translated into wins in the Tournament. Only 1 win in 5 appearances so far. There are a lot of schools out there that would find that less than sufficient to keep around.
Another cancellation...man why can't this happen to teams we're supposed to be playing? We could get some "wins" It's a stupid policy.
All this griping about the cancellation/forfeit policy, but I haven't heard any viable alternatives. What other way is there to deal with potentially large numbers of cancelled games in some equitable manner? It's basically only going to effect seeding for conference tournaments and the standings for regular season championships, which at least one league doesn't even recognize. The selection committee is perfectly capable of accounting for Covid forfeit games.
I mean the alternative is essentially rewarding teams with infections by them either not playing games and getting better seeding and treatment based on a win percentage like last year, or they play a crap load of games in the back half of the conference schedule which hurts everyone. I don't think there are any "good" options right now, and these "losses" aren't counting towards anything but the conference tourney seeding, so it's kind of six of one, half a dozen of the other. It stinks games are getting canceled, but I don't know what the leagues should be doing that would be fair and equitable to all involved. More than likely it's going to impact the majority of teams at some point anyway.
The way things have gone with this group the past two seasons I’m expecting us to get news that Nze and Hodges have been cleared to play only to learn the next day that we’ve had to forfeit the next 4 games due to COVID issues. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
How would it not make more sense/be fairer to have the game simply not count? Isn’t that a clear and obvious alternative? If some team goes 10-2 and another goes 14-5, is it really a big deal that the 10-2 team finishes higher in the standings due to win %? Or, more relevantly, isn’t that more fair than some team winning 10/12 games played but having a 10-10 record for standing purposes because they got covid-screwed? And you could set a minimum games played threshold for a team to be eligible for standings/seeding purposes (e.g., 10) to guard against the possibility some team goes 5-2 and wins the league. Not counting the games seems like the obviously appropriate choice to me.
I was out most of the night and following my football bets (betting on the NFL on a Tuesday is completely normal)...looks like Nova smacked Xavier.
Both the ACC and Big 12 have pivoted from the forfeit-covid rule and are adjusting. Big East should do the same.
Xavier was actually leading most of the game until the last 8 minutes. I think they started 5/6 on 3s but finished like 6/23. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
Fuuck yeah. It's the right decision. And that's coming from a fan of a team that may not win 4 big east games.
