It's amazing how far the dance team has come. It used to be a joke among my friends and family, but it is legit now.
Sanctioned by NCAA should be one criteria, but obviously more nuanced than that. Does rugby perform at other teams events? Just seems like this falls more in the realm of entertainment. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
Whether cheerleading is a sport comes down to the proper definition of "sport" (insofar as one exists). The main question at hand is whether the St. John's cheerleaders were justified in their actions. Assuming there isn't more to the story, the answer in my opinion is a clear no. But I was also immature at that age and thought the world revolved around me (still probably do sometimes), so who am I to judge?
A sport doesn't need to be sanctioned by the NCAA to be a sport. Sports are meant to be entertaining to those watching it, too. A little ironic when a lot of the people posting are saying how the basketball team is not as entertaining as it used to be. Dance and Cheerleading are sports that are not sanctioned by the NCAA. Maybe their performance during the games is just their pre-season before competing in the National Championships.
Back to the actual title of this blog: Marquette apparently is still hungover from barely surviving the Dawgs on saturday.
I wasn't impressed one iota saturday with Marquette. So I took uconn at home tonight laying the 4. It's been a complete beatdown and I wish I would have been more aggressive.
I was thinking Marq +4.5 earlier today, glad I didn’t bite. Both teams are wildcards that could get a great draw and end up in the final four or be out on day 1.
The Cheerleader Coach advised me Cheerleading is classified by the NCAA as an "emerging" sport which means it will soon be sanctioned by the NCAA. I did not ask her about dance squads.....
You guys can talk all you want about cheerleading and dance. Down here in Tennessee, we have bass fishing teams/clubs. The Bass Fishing Team at UT is one of the top performing collegiate bass fishing organizations in the nation. Don’t know if they have any female members, but now we talkin’ bout sport. Go anglers go.
According to some on this board, Bass fishing would NOT qualify as a sport because it is not sanctioned by the NCAA. Go Anglers!
