Hit wrong key- h next to j. . Butler moved up from last time I looked. Perhaps UConn didn’t take any transfers.

OK, its the summer basketball doldrums, so normally forgettable articles become mildly interesting. Here is an article by John Makuch projecting the BEast standings for the upcoming 23-24 season. Its 3 weeks old and some new portal moves probably will affect his opinions - but here it is. He has Seton at 11th, Butler at 8th, St. Johns at 6th and X in 2nd. No surprise he picks UCONN in 1st. I agree with the Seton placement and the UCONN pick - the rest is debatable. https://bustingbrackets.com/2023/05...-too-early-power-rankings-for-2023-24-season/

AGD has little to do with Cooley or Pitino being good recruiters. This is why some of us didn't get excited about signing tons of low major transfers. We'll see how they compete against BE talent.

I'm interested to learn more about why you feel there is little connection between NIL money and our recruiting success. Hasn't it been widely reported that St. John's and Georgetown (despite having 10 people at every home game) are flush with NIL backing?

I think Cooley & Pitino are great salesmen and coaches. Yes, NIL is important but I'm assuming their pitch is "kid if you put up numbers on the court, our east coast alums with deep pockets can take care of it". I would guess BU recruits are hearing a different message.

And this may not be a popular opinion around here, but "recruiting success" is very objective. Thad has built a low major all star team (almost like Holt did with A-10 transfers). We'll see how they actually do in the BE.

The part that I'm most curious to see unfold is will it impact high school recruiting of high ceiling kids that don't want to wait for minutes. For example, if Kapke doesn't see the court because he's stuck behind a low major transfer from Bucknell, it's simply too easy for him to leave now. Add NIL to that dangling carrot and it becomes a dangerous game to play. If that would ever become a trend, BU basketball recruiting evolves into an annual portal trip to the island of misfit transfers.

I don't disagree totally disagree with your concern regarding the talent level that we brought in through the transfer market. Time will tell if the "under the radar guys" can outperform their recruiting buzz.

The only push back I will offer is I think Thad and the staff are also great sales guys with a tremendous recruiting, developing and winning pedigree. We (collectively as fans, boosters and the Indy Business Community) need to put them in the same ballpark as the others when it comes to NIL. In that vein, AGD is extremely important, even critical. Thad said we have to land 3 Dudes, in his words, and surround them with really good basketball players. AGD and direct endorsement deals are needed to allow him to get said "Dudes"!

I like the potential of Augusto and Finley. I got to sit next to Coach MoJo at one of the recent AGD dinners and have warmed up to Kapke's potential, as well. Boden and Finley are fanatics, in the best way possible!

I've been catching on these post-draft decision Top 25 for next season and the number of people in on St/ John's is mind-blowing. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't see it. A lot of it appears to be the coaching bump with Pitino but this team, on paper, is a lot weaker than some of their more recent squads. I know coaching has been upgraded and I know they have a stud in the middle with Soriano, but I feel like they've sent out a lot more than they have brought in and are really relying on mid major performers to succeed. We have talked ad nauseum about the success recently of MM in the BE but a lot of those programs have foundational BE proven players in place already, whereas St. John's just does not have that.

TL ; DR- WTF is all going on with the CBB media felating St. John's?

Seriously. This league just continues to get more competitive. It’s an arms race for sure.

Best thing for Pitino’s recruiting, New York City hookers are easier to find. Probably still on his old Rolodex.
Imagine had to search harder and be less choosy when hiring hookers for Louisville recruiting weekends.

I really put a lot of stock into this group's ratings when they have Camren Hunter listed as a member of our roster.

Believe they also said Big 12 instead of Big East in one of the headings when I read it. Bunch of jabronis.
