Technically, we don't...but guessing JMM might be on the move after this year? or someone else, or someone goes pro
Look, I know he has the COVID year, technically, but I don’t think anyone should assume he’s going to be taking up a scholarship next year. He’s not stupid, the staff isn’t stupid…he needs to move on after four years. Butler would have done right by him in having him on scholarship for four years. There’s no purpose served for the program in having him return. He’s not played and he’s not going to play this year. Good guy. Good student. Good teammate. Not a D1 college basketball player.
Looks like it's full speed ahead on recruiting 2023s even though all scholarships currently are all spoken for. Boden Kapke, from Minnesota, 6'11", 230 pounds. 3-star. Per 247, he has offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, Boston College, Wake Forest, Loyola (Chicago), and Xavier (of course) https://247sports.com/Player/Boden-Kapke-46125709/
Oopsie I asked your same question in a different thread My bad Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
It would assume that one of the current scholarship players doesn't return for the 2023-24 season or (God forbid) Bizjack were to back out of his commitment. All current players other than Hunter (whose scholarship will be taken by Bizjack) have eligibility remaining. Mulloy will have played four years, but the 2020-21 season didn't count from a scholarship standpoint, so he still would have one year of eligibility left. Lots of possibilities, of course, especially with a new staff.
I don’t think this is quite fair. I think he’s a D1 player, just not a BE-level player. Zero reason JMM couldn’t be a contributor at IUPUI or a Horizon League team or something like that. He’s just not quite at the level for the Big East given the level of play across the league.
This is high praise, but I watch a lot of Zags, and this kid reminds me a bit of Drew Timme. Good post moves, can handle it a bit, 3-level scorer. Timme has that stupid mustache; this kid has ridiculous hair.
Yep, gonna need @willisbrown to weigh in on his man bun. Personally, not a big fan, but if he helps us win, I don't care what he does with his flow.
Long long way to go for the kid. He’s not quick actually slow and not a leaper. Shoots from his chest. He is going to have to change physically and skill wise a lot.
We’ll never know I suppose. It’s possible, but I don’t know what we’ve seen that would indicate he’d be effective in the HL. It’s not like “oh, he’s OK for a few mins to hold his own just not quite big enough to be very effective.” It’s not close, and he’s a senior. Most HL starting centers could play a few minutes at a time in the BE and not look completely out of place. Think about how good Andrew Smith was, relatively speaking, and it’s not like he dominated the HL. In any event, butler is in the big east, and we all agree it doesn’t make sense to use a bonus fifth scholarship year for a guy who isn’t going to contribute. I would tell him to go somewhere low major with a grad program he’s interested in whose hoops team is completely without a center and enjoy getting some PT and free school. Best for everyone.
