I think turnbull, kapke reminds me a lot of brunk. His bulk size is nice though Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
I really do get what you're saying because he's pretty much built like him.....But Brunk never could shoot the ball like that, especially from 3. If he really can pop from the perimeter like that and not be a sloth on defense, then he won't be anything close to a liability on the court like Brunk was. With that said, Turnbull has the higher upside. If anyone can tap into his potential, Matta is definitely the guy to do it.
Has anyone found a good highlight reel they can post? Interested to see what we got in action. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
There's a couple -- the Hudl is where the highlight gif in my Patreon write-up for his commitment is from. I'll be going through my saved D1 Minnesota film sometime this week and hopefully have a film review out this month or early next on the Patreon. I should have an interview-based article with Boden out this week or early next.
Let's be real about Boden, he's 6'10+ that moves very well, is a big body, high motor, and is very comfortable shooting from 3, at worse he's a playable big, at best he's a Drew Timme-esque player. There's not too many 6'10+ guys out there capable of shooting 35-40% beyond the arc, makes very some really open driving lines for guards and wings. Be nice to have a guy that's going to drag the Uconn and Providence thugs out of the lane
Hey guys, I love the fact that we got Boden, he's the type of big (including Brunk) I always hope Butler goes after because there's usually no downside to them. The "sloth on defense" comment wasn't really meant to imply I think he'll be bad, I just meant he won't have to do much more to be better than Brunk assuming he's not slow (Reports suggest he's not.) I was really high on Brunk when he came to Butler despite his limitations on defense, but when it appeared he stopped caring towards the end and then left, it was disappointing. I don't dislike Brunk, but I do feel more confident Boden can be like what his highlight reels suggest instead of what Brunk turned into.
Brunk was behind the 8 ball from the start, simply because at Southport he never played man to man defense. Never...
I don't think there's much consider other than he didn't make the improvements necessary to be an impact player. This happens all the time and isn't meant to be an insult. Beside like 15 to 20 blue chippers, high school recruits are incapable of playing in college without making tremendous strides in their skills and physicality. The goal is to find players with the capacity to make the leap. The vast majority simply don't grow to that point in such a small amount of time
Finished 1st in the slam dunk contest, 3rd in the 3 point contest at a local 3 on 3 tournament…also stole the fashion show with that shirt Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
Frankly, Brunk was overvalued from the beginning. After watching Brunk live on several occasions in HS, I felt his lack of athleticism would be exposed. The fact that he was never able to compensate for that at the next level, was very disappointing. I had hoped for much more.
I'm sure we all we're hoping for more. At least in Boden's case, even if he has any shortcomings in his athleticism, he should clearly be able to overcome it with his shooting; his ability to hit outside shots is almost night and day compared to Brunk's. Honestly it's almost like watching Andrew Chrabascz, maybe not quite as crafty but definitely a multi-dimensional scorer who can't be stopped in just one way.
Think Joey losing his dad took a lot of wind out of his sails, understandably. Joe was the driving force behind Joey’s desire to play. As Joe was known to say, “I’ve raised a 7 foot zookeeper” as he knew Joey didn’t have that “fire”. Think it could have turned out differently had tragedy not struck.
That is very kind of you to say. I'm just trying my best. (It is not a recruiting article, so don't read into this being about Flory, but I think you guys are really going to like a free-to-read Butler piece that I'm working on right now. I have high hopes for it. Hopefully should come out next week or the week after.)
