Kelley is a 2022 6-5 guard who attends The Phelps School in Malvern, PA (Philly area). (Rivals lists him as a point guard; 247 says he's a shooting guard.) He has lots of high major interest and quite a few mid-major offers but, per Rivals (https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/chas-kelley-274716#school-interests), the only other P6 offer so far is from Rutgers. He has taken visits to Rutgers and LaSalle. As far as I can tell, he is not ranked nationally. He runs with Team Durant.
Lofty comparison, but I see a mix of Kamar Baldwin and Kelan Martin from his highlight video. Looks like he can get buckets.
He's got very translatable skills. He's a better PG than KB ever was/is. Definitely has that Big East length and athleticism. He won't have problems defending. Everything I've read says he's a stellar perimeter defender. Definitely, can go get a basket but he prefers to be the facilitator. Think he's the definition of a combo guard. Another guy you can say his recruitment got hurt by COVID last year and maybe to our benefit.
Top 6 along with DePaul, Boston college, George mason, Ohio, and Rutgers Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
I’m in contact with him, we’re working on setting up a time to do a call soon. Should have an interview-based article up in the next few days.
Dig it dig it dig it. Long lead guards are my dream for this program. And that list is very beatable.
Sign me up. I’d say it’s between butler and Rutgers Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
Does anyone know if he is more of a scorer than his EYBL stats? He hit 53% (28 of 53) from 3 in EYBL games this summer, but only scored 6.7 ppg. Lukas's article didn't mention overall fg%. Sent from my SM-G977U using Butler Hoops mobile app
He does whatever his team needs. He reminds me a lot of Chuck Harris in high school, if he needs to score he will, if he needs to facilitate he will, defend he will Sent from my SM-G986U using Butler Hoops mobile app
I did see his EYBL team was 9-2, which is encouraging, as well. Thanks! Sent from my SM-G977U using Butler Hoops mobile app
Each recruit's sizzle reel is good but I would agree here after watching. Nice court vision & like that he's aggressive taking it to the rim. If the outside shot is there, could be an interesting fit. Agree with others BU should beat that list.
https://www.zagsblog.com/2021/08/05/class-of-22-shooting-guard-chas-kelley-breaks-down-top-6/ He will visit Butler Sept. 3-5 and Boston College Sept. 7-8. Butler: “Butler is a storied program that has a lot of potential to be back at the top of the Big East. Coach [LaVall] Jordan is a player’s coach and I like that he also played at Butler. The staff is big on my development. Coach Jordan really understands who I am as a player and understands my versatility. He has made it very clear that he wants me to come in right away and make an impact.”
This is the kind of stuff I expect to hear about LaVall Jordan; Michigan folks loved him for doing so well developing guards. List certainly is interesting.
