Well, if Holt ever leaves, it's pretty obvious who our first target should be... Obviously, if he sucks at UWM, then plans change.
Just giving you a hard time. If I remember correctly, during the Brandon Miller hire you were always pining for LaVall if we wanted a "Butler guy." I think the rest is history. I'll be interested to see how he does in Milwaukee. I honestly thought he was sticking around to either take the Michigan job when Beilein retired or take the spot at a bigger state school if a position opened up. But UWM isn't a bad job. I wonder if Valpo can continue the momentum in the Horizon now that Bryce is gone.
I see. And yes, if we just HAD to continue down the line, LaVall was way my choice before Miller (and you all saw why, Jesus, worse than even I could have predicted). It had to be a snap decision but looking back, I really wish Collier just would have done the interim job and a real coaching search. But, it landed us Holtmann in the end so things work out I guess. As far as my ol' Ross Hall brah LaVall...I hope (and know he will) he kicks ass there. We all hated UWM for so long so it's very hard to root for them, but, now that he's there, I shall. I love that dude and I would guess he's there two-three years then will be coaching a high major somewhere. He's got it (other than FTs....too soon?) and he'll do great at Milwaukee. Big ups.
Wow. I bet they were offering a nice raise, too. Good to know if holt is gonna leave its gonna take a good job, not just cash. Like I said earlier this week, GA Tech is a bad high major job. Relative to the entire college basketball landscape, it's a good job. Relative to the high major world it is not any good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Holt has said butler is a destination job. Its up to butler to make it a destination job. Sent from my VS985 4G using Butler Hoops mobile app
I've been following the 3 high major coaching openings (Pittsburgh/Vanderbilt & Georgia Tech) pretty closely the past couple of weeks wondering if any or all of them would go after Coach Holtmann. I read at the beginning of the week that Georgia Tech planned to go aggressively after a current coach in a major conference as their top target although they didn't say or didn't know who it was. Obviously Coach Holtmann has to do what's best for himself and his family but I'm very, very happy he's staying and is committed to Butler. Hope he stays for a long time.
Butler needs to pay Holtmann more than what they are now in order to keep him around. They need to get his salary (and the assistants preferably) in line with the rest of the coaching staffs in the Big East.
Just a reminder for everyone, Butler does not have to disclose Holtmann's salary. For all we know, he IS making a good amount for a major conference coach. I'm guessing there are some nice performance bonuses in there too..
We have to remember this isn't pre-Final Four Butler anymore....we have been spending money at the HC position. What was Lick rumored to be making when he left in '07? A few hundred thousand? A bump in money isn't going to be at the same level that it was before coupled with the better position to remain put.
