And also delusional if they think they're getting Greg Marshall.

How much is Memphis paying GT to take him?

Head scratching hire if it happens.

Bobinski hasn't had a bad hire...but this could really be the first.

Hahaha, so true, and honestly, any of them with brains are not. But there's national talking heads mentioning it...which, like, no. Memphis is not a good job and Pastner has left the kitchen with no food. No one worth a crap will take that job. Low major-lower mid major will be what they settle for, gonna have to.

I don't even necessarily think it's a bad job. It has resources/facilities/fans/etc. to potentially dominate a low-end high major or high-end mid major conference (depending on how you look at it). But why in the world would you make the jump to Memphis when you are almost surely going to be called by a blue blood in the next few years (or at least very good high-major schools)? That's what I don't get.

It's there, but it's fractured. Now, this is a great move for Pastner, because everyone here thinks he's a clown, which he is. But, the problem was he wrecked that program so badly you really are looking at 100% complete rebuild. They can barely put a team on the court next season (body wise). Their going to have to settle because it's going to have to be a younger, hungrier, excitable type. And someone who is willing to be an AAC bottom feeder for a couple years. With this Lawson will definitely go pro and his younger brother may leave, that leaves them with I think 7 players. The only reason the Lawsons are at Memphis is because he paid their dad tons of money to be an assistant.

To your point though, even if it wasn't a rebuild, it's still not on par with WSU so anyone who mentions Marshall has gone to bye bye land.

There's something clearly in the water in Tennessee. Vanderbilt fans were convinced Gregg Marshall was a reasonable HC target too. Anddddd they ended up Bryce Drew. Still a good hire, obviously, but Drew isn't even in the same atmosphere as Marshall in terms of pedigree.

So glad the Holt news broke after he rejected GT. Hate spending a couple of days wondering if our coach is getting poached.

Back to Vall. Was thinking that tournament $$ BU left behind in the Horizon, might have helped UMW acquire Vall. Maybe a stretch, but a few extra bucks courtesy of BU can't hurt the budget.

All the talk about the BE payout from tournament units got me wondering how much we left behind with the Horizon--which is due to end after next season. (2010 ended this year.) Gonna make a dent in their revenue.

Brandon Miller's salary was in the $800k range (slightly over based on the school's most recently filed 990 form), so I'm sure he's making over $1M per year, but I'd be surprised if it's over $1.5 per year. Essentially to get it to the point where it is a destination job, and similar to his Big East peers, my guess is it'll need to be in the $1.8 - $2M range. Certainly a reach to be feasible for Butler at the moment, but if the conference can keep producing in the tourney and Holtmann stays successful, eventually it should be doable.

Would this be? Its reported Bryce Drews contract is 6 years/16 mil which is about 2.71 mil a year. Would Holtmann stay at butler for 1.8 - 2.0mil?? Itd be getting towards the uncomfortable area if that's what we top out at

Let's face reality. If Holtmann continues to have success, it is more likely than not he'll move on eventually. There's no way Butler will ever be able to match the price of some schools in the ACC or Big Ten with football money to back them up. Let's just hope we go on a couple of deep runs before he does. Is it possible he loves Butler and never leaves? Possibly, but I wouldn't bank on it.

I don't buy this at all. If you get to close to 2 million you are competitive with all but the very highest paying jobs (heck, jay wright and tony Bennett are making 2-2.5mm). There are costs to leaving, both that have to do with the job (e.g. recruiting) and that have to do with being human (e.g. Moving your family sucks). If you make 2mm at a program you like and at which you're having success, you're not leaving for a 2.5mm job. If you're making 1.2? Different story.

Get it to two million, which we absolutely can do, and we can keep Holtmann for a long time.

Well of course she lives in Indy. Do you mean she's from Indy? If so didn't know that.

I think Staxawax' was riffing off the line some years back vis-รก-vis Gordon not leaving early.

Some folks postulated, "his sister [was] at Butler. Given their strong bond, he'd never leave here."

(My apologies if I got that guess wrong, Mr. Stax.)
