US News & World Report have Northwestern at #9 and U Cal Berkeley at #22. Sounds about right. Penn State? Wasn’t able to scroll that low!
Real head scratcher NU wasn’t #1. Wonder if it’s a typo Sent from my iPad using Butler Hoops mobile app
Yes true. Another “trash” rating service has NU at #14 and Cal-Berkeley at #49. Also depends what you want to major in.
I’m admittedly biased but anyone who wants to argue Cal is better than Northwestern for undergrad is just not correct. For post grad programs there is a much better case. That’s not to say that cal isn’t an excellent school-it is. But Northwestern it just simply is not. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
Northwestern is great. But cmon, it’s not Yale. It’s not even the best school in the Chicago metro. And again, Cal is maybe the best public university in the world. To say you can’t at least argue for one over another is silly.
If you can argue cal over northwestern why can’t you argue northwestern over Yale? Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
I think you’re too close to this one. University rankings are imperfect, but it’s the best we’ve got, and it’s unlikely they’re all wrong in the same way. Here are several rankings: American Ranking of World Universities: Berkeley - 5; Northwestern - 34 Forbes university rankings: Berkeley - 1; Northwestern - 10 Times Higher Ed: Berkeley -8; Northwestern - 24 USNWR: Berkeley - 22; Northwestern - 9 Washington Monthly: Berkeley- 10; Northwestern - 24 QS World Rankings: Berkeley - 27; Northwestern - 32 Money Magazine: Berkeley - 14; Northwestern - 11. It seems clear enough they’re peers - at a minimum. Yale outranks Northwestern, often by many spots, in every one of these rankings. They’re not peers.
Huh weird. I was right. In most of those Cal outranks NU. Stange. Even if NU is “better” this proves my point. Plenty of reasonable people think Cal is = to NU.
If the enormous revenues generated by TV contracts were driven by academic excellence, then both these schools would be in high demand - but it isn't.
