Why isn't he shot faking and pivoting around so he can get a good shot /s

I have been at almost every home game and I am not sold on DJ's game translating to the Big East. I hope I am wrong.

Do we have a legit height measurement for him? I've seen him listed at 6-7, which worries me that he's really closer to 6-6.

He will bring down our current team average.......unfortunately.

Himself and coaches say he's 6'8 at the moment and still might have an inch or two left to grow

6'6" 0r 6'8", to write Hughes off at this stage would simply be a mistake.

I think I've heard this about every forward recruited in the history of ever, and not just at Butler.

His height, IMO, isn't nearly as important as his wingspan. Guys like Christian David can still be very effective post defenders at 6'6 because he's got a 6'10 wingspan.

We'll see where he's at in terms of readiness next year. What I do know is he better be working on his foul shots (as should most of the team) and defense to be as ready for PT as he can be.

BU could afford to red-shirt Hughes next year to develop and hone his basketball skills. Physically he appears 100% ready. His stroke at the charity stripe is decent, but he seems to rush the attempts. It is possible that could be correctable.

Hughes had 16 pts., 9 rebounds, 5 blocks, 2 assists and 2 steals as LN beat Pike 75-67. He was 6 of 8 from the floor and 4 of 6 from the line.

A couple of interesting items concerning Hughes' skillset, he is able to handle the ball to some extent and is a better than average passer. Granted his team is loaded with talent. but I do feel he is capable of doing much more given some freedom. When you play for a legendary coach, it's difficult to not play the role you're assigned.

I 100% agree with this. He definitely is playing the role the coaches are telling him to play in HS. He's much closer to a Coles/Nze player than just a down low guy

Hughes and LN defeated Floyd Central on Sat. 66-49. No stats became available, but Hughes had at least 3 dunks. They play HSE tonight on IHSAA TV (free broadcast). LN will open the tournament against Cathedral.

Hughes had 10 pts. on 5 of 6 shooting to go with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block in a 68-42 win over HSE. He played roughly half the game as LN led 42-16 at the half.

Geez, did HSE basically sit everyone to prep for sectionals?

No, but HSE was outscored 23-6 in the 2nd quarter which put the game out of reach.

#3 LN vs #4 Cathedral in the opening round should prove extremely interesting. To think one of those teams will be finished by March 3rd is mindboggling. Could be smooth sailing afterward ?

Not to start this debate, but they need to seed Sectionals and Regionals. Happens way too often.

LN/Cathedral will air on WNDY over the air channel 23 live Wednesday @ 6:00. Not sure if it is available on their website. (Doubtful)
