This discussion isn’t actually questioning my opinion, it’s questioning the ethics of my opinion.

Seadawg questioned my opinion, and I respect Seadawg’s opinion quite a bit, so I am going back and watching the full game.

I don’t know how criticizing based off a few minutes of video is any different from an informed opinion perspective than praising off a few minutes of video-which people do all the time.

In fact, I’d imagine that Estar, Seadawg and Jared are the only ones here who consistently watch full games of the guys we recruit, but that doesn’t mean only those 3 discuss them. If you know what you’re looking for, you can make some informed judgements about a player off of that much tape. It doesn’t tell the whole story, which is why I’m watching more, but it certainly gives you a good starting point.

I do like that in the same discussion two different people here who don’t like me have both criticized me for not standing by my opinions enough, and then another for standing by them too much.

Lol most of those dudes are fat guys in their parents’ basements who never played a down (or minute) in their lives. Acting like they have some type of professional credentials to be rating recruits with stars over anyone else (especially Dawgs2014 since he was around basketball while at Butler) is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. There’s zero difference between anyone on this site and the ppl who work for Rivals/247 other than they get paid to do it.

That was the brief, unfortunate period when Brad experimented with including hair in his analytics.

PSU, I would say you're being kind. We used to laugh at some of the takes from the independent "evaluators". Every solid player evaluation is backed up by at least two checkers and you better not have thin skin when you get their reports back. Having said this, there's no reason you can't be respectful when analyzing a player. I very rarely think anyone on this board crosses that line.

Brad can give kids who don’t play hard schollies, but since he’s no longer a college coach that means that Lavall would NEVER???

    I’m actually laughing.

Yep there are two ways to evaluate a recruit:
    1. If you have some expertise (I do in football, you do in basketball), use your eyes and make a projection based on film.

    2. Look at the offer list (this probably matters more in football than basketball since the top kids routinely get 65+ offers whereas top basketball schools might only have two openings and therefore don’t offer a top kid). This matters way more than some 247 “analyst”.

Since no one is a dullard on this board, can I be the official dotard ?

This could possibly be the dumbest thing ever posted on this board.

How does one even logically get to the point of asking this question in this context and expect it to mean something?

Whoever said there are no dullards on this board must be choosing to ignore the ramblings of a complete moron who has poisoned this entire forum with his buffonery.

I do not want to name names, but this clown just cited Nolan Berry as a Brad Steven's recruit who failed due to lack of effort. Now I don't remember the story with Nolan exactly, but I am pretty sure he suffered a catastrophic injury after we offered him. I think he broke both arms or something insane.

Admittedly I am not a doctor so I wouldn't be able to accurately described the magnitude of that injury on an athlete while his body is still growing and muscles developing. I will go out on a limb and say that perhaps that injury was a bigger reason for his prolonged struggles rather than wildly unsubstantiated claims of lacking effort

    Lmao. All of this.

    Dude. I was literally there.

Your desire to prove me wrong at all costs is interfering with all common sense.

The insinuation that coaches wouldnt a recruit who doesn’t play hard is flatly moronic. It happens every year to TONS of players and programs. The idea that people want to fight that is.....Idk, y’all must really like me.

Not to change the topic, but he needs to improve his free throw shooting. If he can't hit a free throw, that's a problem.

Oh please yes, let's switch gears for a moment.

Honestly, I use to not worry so much about free throw shooting from Butler's frontcourt, but last season changed my mind on that. They were the only ones drawing the fouls and they couldn't capitalize on it, and besides that the only guard getting to the line could only hit them maybe 65% of the time. My hope is that Hughes has a normal Summer and Fall of practices to be average at the line - he'll have to - because his game seems depended on attacking the basket, and it won't do much good if teams can neutralize it by fouling him.

Golden was actually really good at the stripe, especially as the season went on.
