If Butler offers he'll accept. Say hello to your new center.

Butler is going to be so bad next season. LMAO. Glad to see Lavall reaching high for the stars on his transfer gets.

Yeah I think this could be good. Certainly not as bad as folks are thinking. LJ has been connected to some of the more attractive graduate transfer guards, like Proctor and others, so he’s obviously trying to get them to visit. And his system doesn’t focus on the center, so you don’t need a stud to play the 5. If you land Smits, the biggest beneficiary is likely Nze because he can mainly play the 4, which in turn helps Sean....

I don’t think this is representative of who he’s targeting overall because he’s reaching out to better guards. It’s more likely to be indicative who who he’s targeting at the 5. I’m fine with this, especially if we land an impact player at the 2.

    Let me get this straight...

Butler just lost all of its center minutes from 2018-2019 and has a chance to add a guy with immediate eligibility who had 23-7 against Wake Forest; 20-7 against West Virginia; 20-12 against UNLV, not to mention a block rate that exceeds any of Butler's centers for the last three seasons...Oh, and he drew fouls at a higher rate than any player in the MVC this year and pulled down offensive rebounds at a rate higher than all but 2 players in the MVC.

And we're gonna b*tch about that?

    Really?

Seriously, this board has lost its mind. I am embarrassed.

I did enjoy the first play of that game and Smits getting blocked. We've seen that one plenty... Maybe he's got better hands?? I'm just struggling mightily on this. His defensive metrics leave a lot to be desired for especially considering how abused we got down low this year... I know I'm being negative, maybe this is the spark we need! Maybe his dad will come to practice and teach some moves to the boys

Getting him also allows you to go “best guy available” mode with the last one

The question is do people like him better than what they were expecting from Brunk? That's the trade here.

Hell I mentioned him two weeks ago and got mauled for it...I don't think it's the worst thing but it better damn well not be the best thing either. Lavall has to bring in at least one big time talent to impact this roster. Otherwise...I don't even want to think about it.

    I absolutely do.

But it's an irrelevant comparison anyway. It's not a trade. No one chose to send Brunk away for Smits. The only question is whether adding Smits makes us better than not adding Smits.

Probably not, but it’s not between him and Brunk.

My only question is are we going to be going backwards by hiring a slower guy that again doesn’t fit Lavall’s style? He doesn’t strike me as real fleet of foot. That wouldn’t be reason for me not to take him though.

It may not be *between* he and Brunk, but many are going to see it that way and compare. It's not a straight up trade, but the comparisons will be made. Who knows, Smits could come in and go 10 and 7 while Brunk twists away on some bench. I don't know that answer. I think both are ok although not good for this roster. But Smits could be a good plug and play here and there. Give a different, bigger look.
