Jerry Palm of CBS Sports decided to dive into bracketology early. He projects Butler to win the Horizon League tournament and get a 13 seed. He has Detroit earning and at large bid and a 10 seed. The matchup is interesting as well with Butler facing Pitt in the first round.

Also of note he has the Big 10 getting 7 in and Indiana isn't one of them. I was surprised Illinois wasn't one of them either. Obviously all of this is a meaningless prediction that no one should take too seriously. I just enjoy following all of the bracket projections and how they change throughout the course of the season.

4 Indiana schools with ISU projected to win the MVC. Interestingly enough, as you pointed out, no IU.

As a side, is six the largest number of Hoosier schools we have had in the tournament? I was thinking it was a year that Evansville and Valpo were both in along with the usual Indiana teams.

Yes, in 2000 six teams made the tournament. Butler, IU, Purdue, Valpo, Indiana St., and Ball St.

Then in 2001 five teams made it. Butler, IU, Purdue, Notre Dame, and IUPUI.

It is hard to understand that if Butler wins the Horizon league, Butler gets a 13 seed and Detroit as an at large team gets a 10 seed.

Am I the only one who is worried about other teams in our league more than I am about Detroit? Traditionally Milwaukee, Valpo, Cleveland State, and Wright State have always seemed to play us tougher than Detroit. I may be wrong, I know a lot of people are big on Detroit this year. I guess I just won't be convinced until I see them put it all together. I could see this season being very similar to last season though, with a lot of teams finishing around the 13-5 mark and tied for first.

I really don't know what to expect. I wouldn't say I'm worried about other teams more than Detroit. There isn't one single team I'm worried about. If Butler is as good as I think they will be I'm not worried about anything in the conference. If Butler struggles a little bit though I do think there will be another team who steps up and is ready to take the conference, but I really don't have anything more than a guess at who it will be.

I don't think he meant the regular season, just the conference tournament. Maybe he feels that the experience of Butler in the tournament will help them beat Detroit in the tournament. Or maybe he just didn't want to leave Butler out of the field but didn't want to give them a better seed so that was his way out.

I'd be surprised if Detroit finishes higher than 4th.

I like BU to win the league at something like 14-4 and wind up in one of those 8-9 scenarios.

The dreaded 8 and 9 seeds. Let's stay away from those, since we know that's a death sentence for teams hoping to play the 2nd weekend ;)

Rivals is projecting Butler as a 10 seed. Notre Dame is also a 10 and Indiana is an 11.

Jason King predicts Butler not making the tournament this year.. bring on the doubters

    Three bold predictions
    1. Two Kentucky players will earn first-team All-American honors.
    2. North Carolina State and Virginia will be among the top five teams in the ACC.
    3. Butler and VCU will miss the NCAA tournament.

Also, Lunardi's Bracketology has Butler as a 10 seed

Butler needs to get the Horizon automoatic bid.

After the Gonzaga/Stanford trip, Butler is likely going to be 6-7. The team is young and I haven't seen anything to make me believe they can upset a "real" team - Xavier, Purdue, Gonzaga/Stanford.

A 7+ loss Butler team, with no distinguishing wins, is going to have a hard time making the tournament.

Butler needs to dominate and win the Horizon conference. Then win the auto bid.

I think this team can be good enough to win game(s) in the NCAA in March, but they have to survive December.
