Am I glad we showed support for him during the game and he took the time to visit? Yes. Am I glad our team performed that way in front of him? You already know the answer to that.

The kid can score. Maybe he is sitting there thinking, I can come here and play or start right away, and I won’t miss the same easy basket after basket after basket. Or pass up a perfect look to dish off to someone who just chucks it up.

I'm hoping this guy can be on the same level Howard, Hayward, Mack, or Dunham were at right out of high school. We need him to make an immediate impact. Not that I'm expecting him to lead us to the tourney next year and average 18ppg, but we really could use some renewed optimism next season, and Finley could be a catalyst.

Nice to stick Theo Von just a couple seats from Finley during his visit.

We’ve had very few players who were truly good as freshman, so it’s possible but very unlikely.

    Howard
    Hayward
    Mack
    Dunham
    Chrab
    Kamar

    That’s it.

Next best as freshmen after that are probably Chuck and K Marshall, and neither of their freshman year teams were being impacted a ton from their play.

So again, it’s possible but quite unlikely he is a significant difference maker immediately. Transfer market is likely going to have a much bigger impact on next year.

Watching Turnbull last night he could have been in your list above Hinkle had he been given a chance over Ali and Hunter. What Turnbull did last night in 14 minutes was very impressive. His coordination, B- ball IQ , ability to time his jump to block shots is way way better than most freshmen. Yes he needs to work in the weight room but he needs to be a starter now. His upside is huge and we need for him to know he is a key ingredient going forward.

This is where I am most concerned about Matta. He keeps saying the same thing after every game yet will not change when it comes to Ali and Hunter.m

I’m very high on Turnbull, it’s just his minutes are so low it’s hard to say he’s been a truly good freshman.

I will say the following stat is insane:

In his last 41 minutes of Big East play, he has EIGHT blocks.

Him not being used and proving he's a truly good freshman is not his fault.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, and I'm not even sure I have Chrab and Kamar on my list just going off my memory of how good they were as Freshmen. My biggest thing with Finley is that he's a sub-top 100 HS player, much like Kellan and Howard were. I'd like to at least think he can hold his own along with a lot of the other Freshmen who have come into the BE and made immediate impacts lately. And my bar is pretty low at this point. If he can just shoot and pass a freaking basketball that'll be a victory to me.

Wasn’t referring to you. It’s on Matta. He needs to play Turnbull a lot going forward and should have been playing him more than Hunter or Ali.

There is no comparison in the level of recruits Providence, Xavier, Creighton are getting versus what we have right now and the two coming in.

I don’t know…. Dawgs2014 thinks he’s better right now than Pete Maravich ever was!

Agree, the kid goes to the glass with no fear. He's what we need at the 4 right now. One of the few guys playing with visible energy.

I wouldn't worry about this team's record if I were him. This roster will turnover with Thad's recruits quicker than the pain of watching LJ's recruits get pummeled.

You also gotta imagine that when he watches this team play, he can see himself getting a boatload of minutes next year.

Probably all incoming will get plenty of playing time for sure. If this kid is the future, he’s got to build a team around him. It’ll be interesting to see who comes and goes with transfers.

I really like this play. It starts on the defensive end and it was against good physical defense. Just better offense! Also, one of Thad's quotes in an early recruiting article was interesting. Thad said he had the characteristics you want in a "lead guard". Do you think the staff is eying him more on the ball vs off?
