I am considering changing the format of the recruiting section in order to divide it up by years. This means I would give a sub-forum to each recruiting year. It would be similar to how there is a sub-forum for the recruiting archive right now. It would allow us to make a lot more threads for any player connected to Butler without worrying about recruit threads getting buried on 2nd or 3rd pages.

I'm asking everyone to vote on which format they think they would prefer. Here is a list of some of the advantages and disadvantages I see. Please post more if you think of them and I'll add them to the list.

    Advantages
    • Forum is more organized and information about recruits do not get lost in the "Recruiting Notes" thread
    • Each and every potential recruit gets his own thread
    • Recruit threads less likely to get buried on a 2nd page
    • Creating threads for every player linked to Butler will allow members who subscribe to the sub-forums to get an email letting them know anytime a new name has been linked with Butler

    Disadvantages
    • Forum would take extra clicks to navigate and all of the information will not be in 1 sub-forum and will be more scattered
    • Less talked about recruits will likely have somewhat empty threads

I feel like I had another disadvantage to post but can't think of it now. Definitely vote and if you have a strong opinion or have something else to add that I haven't though of then please post as well.

More advantages than disadvantages, I suppose. It makes sense even if some guys get less coverage. Try it-blogs should constantly be evolving until you get the format that works best.

Well, the reason I like it is I think players actually get more coverage, not less. Right now some guys get forgotten about for a little while as they get buried in the recruiting notes thread. With this format even if there are no posts about them for a little while they will still have their thread displayed so they won't just be forgotten about. Since Butler usually only gets involved with a select group of players its unlikely anyone will get pushed to a 2nd page either.

To me the biggest disadvantage is simply having to open up several subforums. If you log on now and there are 4 new posts in the recruiting section they are all in the same forum. If I changed things you might have to open up 4 different recruiting subforums. It just takes longer. To me it's worth a little extra time to have things more organized, but I see where some people might just see it as a hassle.

I agree-the new format would allow more coverage. I was just responding to your point in the first post that some guys might have somewhat empty threads compared to others. I like perusing blog sites and digging for the info, clicking away, and re-checking. I love sub-categories/forums, the more the better in my mind. Right now, when I come to this site, I feel I have few options, especially visibly, which I think matters to people on some subconscious level. Having choices up makes a site APPEAR a little more interesting and diverse.

Good luck with this...people will complain no matter what but what the heck? lol
Will you be adding "conversations", takes, general info to this site, or stick fairly exclusively to recruiting and issues associated with that aspect of the program. I guess you'll go where the fans take you in some respects. I'm certain you'll pick up a lot of people once school begins and the season nears.

I just wear a shirt that says - "I'm with that guy!"

So I agree with whatever ButlerWay and the fans want. But think the focus should continue to be on recruiting as I do not want to "compete" with the other Butler message board that does a great job.

Haha, I think you do as much as I do around here bd5. But yes, I agree that I'm not going to push the board in that direction. The main board has been very supportive and I'm not going to undercut them like that, so you won't see me creating any game threads during the season.

Ok, I went ahead and made the change. Obviously it can very easily be changed back. Feedback is definitely welcome. Now to go make a lot more threads, especially for 2014.
