Ugh those empty possessions when we can cut it to single digits are killer. Then an NC State 3 likely for the dagger. Still some time and we’re showing some fight, but waited too long.

Well that wasn’t fun at all. Over to the Gonzaga game.

    Fully agree with this

Nc state to me looks much more athletic than penn state

Simas is an enigma. Harris is hot or cold.

When they are both off, we are atrocious. I don’t know if I’ve seen a worse game than tonight from Simas. Both ends he just looks checked out.

Remember when we thought we had too many players and not enough minutes to go around? That was hilarious.

I’m over the injuries. I’m convinced we are cursed or sold our soul for the B2B champ games. Matta has his work cut out for him during this rebuild.

Simas needs to man the f*ck up against physical teams.

    Charmin soft

Outscored at FT line by 10. Lost turnover battle 14-5. Can’t win like that. Nothing else really matters if that’s going to happen.

I actually liked that last press. We didn't trap but we ran guys at the ball handler. I hope we do more of that when it matters.

Also, I really hate for it to be fun for other teams to play us!!

Why is that funny? Also they had 2 bigs. If Manny didn't have to worry about fouling out and git a bit of rest it would be a different game.
I think having to defend the 4 is taking a toll on him.

    Yes indeed

He gets very careless on both ends

I love luko but my brother and I have talked about how he always wants the highlight play and not just the play

It’s funny because all the talk was “we’ve never seen a big like Bates at Butler before”. But in the games against quality opposition he doesn’t even come close to dominate. He’s been on the losing end of those matchups.

    My takeaways:

    1. I'm done with Chuck. I've been pretty patient with him, but it's run out.

    2. We really need Ali and J. Thomas back.

    3. At least we didn't leave Atlantis winless.

    4. Jayden was VERY impressive all 3 games.

    5. Luko really struggled. Needs to toughen up physically and mentally.

    6. Bates will be good this season, but maybe not great. Still a clear upgrade over Golden.

    7. This team is still searching for an offensive identity. The offense was pretty ugly and turnover-filled throughout.

    8. Between DJ, Tate, and Pierce, Pierce is the only one who has shown he deserves any bench minutes at this point.

    9. Turnbull showed some good signs, but is clearly a Freshman.

Frustrating way to end the tournament, but a lot to take from the experience and learn from.

    1) We’ve got to be a lot more physical on O and D. We were scared to drive the ball against big, athletic guards, and we got outmuscled down low and in rebounding.

    2) Taylor had a coming out party. Our best player by a mile. Most encouraging for me was his defense. Kept a lottery pick in check all night.

    3) We’ve gotta get healthy. We only had 8 healthy players, but even if we had 9 only 6 of those players were serviceable (though I was encouraged by what I saw in Turnbull). We desperately need Ali and Thomas. Hunter was up and down, but I’m very scared of what happens when he’s gone next season.

    4) I think Lavall broke a lot of the former players mentally. You can see it with Harris and Simas especially (and Taylor at the beginning of the season). They get flustered way too easily and let it affect them on both ends. Harris did start to turn it around a little at the end of the game, but too little too late. Thad’s spot on with mentality being a key aspect to unlocking this team.

Simas definitely had a rough road trip. 6'6 doesn't cut it against high major power forwards. I have a scary feeling that asking him to play the 4 during conference play isn't going to work.

Well I didn’t expect to win this game due to I believed nc state is a top 35 team, but the goal now is to win the next four before uconn at home

8-3 non con is good in my book with wins over byu and Kansas st.

Sadly the first two games of conference play are really rough ha

Shouldn’t affect his ability to handle and protect the ball against physical defensive guards, though.

Agree on manny having to worry about fouls

We have no depth at all and he has to play soft down low all game right now

Only thing I wish was a bit more double down to help manny and make the bogs force a pass.

Saw that a bit second half and got a few turnovers

I agree with the thought on Simas playing the 4. It reminds me of the season we had to force McDermott to play the 4, and he kept getting his lunch eaten.

I've had no problem with his play. They've mainly left him on an island down low and stayed home and trusted him to play 1 on 1 defense. Butler has never really had a big they could trust to even play that style before since I've been following the program.
