As long as it was just the bones in his leg, the good news is that while this season is certainly not in the cards, it shouldn't cause him long-term issues assuming he doesn't need a rod put in his leg.

    Heartbreaking.

Hoping he recovers and comes out strong next season. No way that wasn’t season-ending.

Agree. Hope he recovers and plays again. Can't imagine this wasn't season ending for him and the Celtics. Just horrible.

Yeah there's no way he didn't tear some soft tissue stuff. Long road of recovery for Hayward.

Godspeed, Gordon. That was brutal. Hoping for no long-term damage.

Plenty of docs on twitter who do this sort of thing saying it's going to be something like 4-6 months and that, in any event, he should make a full recovery. Even if it's on the upper end, the Eastern Conference Finals typically don't start until around late May - that's 7 months from now. (I even saw one well known doc say it could be 3 months, with some luck, but something like 6 months would be a good target.) I know they look a lot worse, but in terms of recovery, it sure seems like dislocations are better than ACL tears (which often don't look bad at all).

I'm going to hold on to the hope that he can be ready for the playoffs. The beauty of the East, if you're the Celtics: you can lose Gordon and could probably lose another starter and still make the playoffs.

He could theoretically come back, but unless his recovery is going to allow him to get a couple of weeks in during the regular season before the playoffs, then I'd say it's probably for the best that he just sit out the entire season. Paul George "just" broke his leg during the summer and sat out basically the entire next year (played 6 games) and took some time to get going the year after that. Hayward broke his tibia and dislocated his ankle. Regardless of when he comes back, the important thing is to make sure everything is completely healed and he isn't pushing too hard to come back too soon.

That definitely seems like a reasonable take. I can't profess to actually know anything about the recovery; just repeating what the experts think as of now and gonna stay hopeful for now.

I don't know anything either, and every injury and recovery is different. Hopefully he heals quickly and fully.

I was having trouble sleeping last night at about 3;00 am so I got up and looked at the computer and saw about Gordon. Then I really couldn't sleep. My thoughts are with you and hope nothing but the best and speedy and complete recovery.
PS. Maybe I can get some sleep on the plane that I am taking tomorrow as I am coming back to Indy for Homecoming.

It took Paul George ~15 months to get back to a competitive level (I watched the handful of games he played at the end of the season after coming back -- he could hardly dunk the ball). I do think Gordon will make a full recovery, but I would be absolutely astounded if he played meaningful minutes before the 2018/19 season.

No big deal, but I noticed that Gordon is still listed as a Utah Jazz. Would it be possible to list him as a Boston Celtic?
    Has anybody heard anything further?

Again, I don't actually know this stuff, just repeating what some true experts are saying. But PG's and GH's injuries are different - why should the recovery times be the same?
