I don't think he's going to decline his player option in the midst of a playoff run. That would cause unnecessary drama to a team pushing for a chance at an NBA Finals (Go Celtics!).

Agree. So it’d make sense to wait to make a decision until after the season is over (unless that decision was to accept the player option, in which case, why wait).

What if he’s planning on retiring after this year? Not the same since the nasty injury, just had his third kid. Not going to be a HOFer, made some damn good money. I’d be leaning that way.

    I don’t think that’s unfathomable. He’s made 3-4 times what luck did...

Gordon is ultra competitive so not sure he’d be ready to hang it up yet. Maybe he could channel it into gaming though-ha. Baby G is actually his 4th child at 31!

He's not been fast and loose with his money, he probably could afford to quit the game, and go finish up his degree at Butler - seems like he was studying to be an architect.

Good call - four kids is hard for me to fathom, even though I am one of four.

True. That’s what makes me think he’d maybe try to play at home for a year or two and see how he likes that before hanging it up.

    And he’s only 30!

This is interesting. Doesn’t he also have a house in LA though? When you’ve made 200 million you can just have houses wherever you spend more than a few weeks every year.

I guess if he wants to end up in Indiana why not just take the player option to get 34 million and then sign the year after?

If he opts out, I would guess he might be only 12-18 million/year guy. Plus, the salary cap could drop and that could out downward pressure on salaries.

He had a house in SD but sold it. And yeah, a 3 million dollar place is change to him, so maybe it’s nothing. But still, wife is living/moved in here, kids are in school here, can opt out if he wants, Pacers were rumored to be interested earlier this summer, etc.

It’s just a lot of interesting facts.

He would be taking a big chance opting out of his current deal. I could see the Celtics moving that contract since he hasn't been very healthy with them. I could also see him pulling a Luck-esque move and retire if he's sick of the rehab. He definitely wasn't 100% in the Heat series.

It’s his option. The Cs can’t really do anything about it if he picks it up (other than trade him - but who’s trading anything worthwhile for a one year 34M deal on a guy who is unfortunately damaged goods).

I hate to say this, but Gordon looked slow and off. I'd bet the Pacers PR is all for it, but I'm not sure about the basketball front office.

I would like to think Gordon will have his explosion and confidence back next season, but I agree, he didn't look great against Miami. Nonetheless, put the $15M for next year in your account and try to win a championship with Brad would be my starting point for advice, without knowing anything else about his situation.

I would like to see him as a Pacer but I would really like to see him and Brad get one!

If you’re a Pacers fan sure, but the Celtics would have no interest in that.
