Wherever it came from, “hoosier” was in common use in the South by the 19th century as “a term of contempt and opprobrium…used to denote a rustic, a bumpkin, a countryman, a roughneck, a hick or an awkward, uncouth or unskilled fellow,” notes Jeffrey Graf of Indiana University's Herman B Wells Library

I like to rile people up by telling them I refuse to be a Hoosier and call myself an Indianan. "Indianan" was the proper term until 2016.

Random trivial "Indianan" tidbit. I went to see Coldplay (don't judge, it was the Viva la Vida tour when they were at their biggest) at Verizon in 2009 and when Chris Martin first addressed the crowd he acted (or maybe it was genuine) like he didn't know what to call us so he said something like "How are all you Indianans doing??" but you could tell he was unsure of himself. And most people playfully booed a little bit.

Anyway, much later in the set as he was ad libbing different lyrics to a song he said something like "here in the Hoosier state" and everyone went wild. Wouldn't be surprised if he planned the whole thing, but also wouldn't be surprised if someone got in his ear at some point during the show to tell him what to call us.

I’m just kidding with this and don’t want to be insensitive to anyone, but this opportunity is too good to pass up, so I’ll just post a screenshot most should understand.

Yup. Walked right into that one. I'm honestly a little ashamed I was ever a fan (I was in high school, everyone has dumb opinions at that point in their lives), as they really went downhill after that tour. Their first two albums are still decent, but the stuff that made them megastars just is not very good after listening to it later in life.

It's a shame you even have to put out a statement before posting a hilarious movie moment. But, that's where we are anymore. Soon enough we'll have to apologize before telling knock-knock jokes. Either way, that is one of the funniest scenes in a movie. Well played.

You should watch like the YouTube snippets and *only* those but reference them in basically any post you make, just to keep up the hope that you may someday but haven’t yet watched. Definitely act like you know everything about the movie but when someone else chimes in always shut it down by announcing that you have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about.

Not a huge coldplay fan but they were arguably the best concert I’ve ever been to. Probably the best “show”.

“Sasha Stefanovic to miss 17 days/3 games due to testing positive for COVID-19. Reason Boilers aren't on pause? Purdue says extensive protocols followed: no cumulative 15 minutes of contact, masks everywhere, no eating on bus/planes, everyone own room, daily testing.”

Honest question: Why are Butler and Purdue’s approaches so different? Good for Purdue being transparent and communicating the situation.

I've seen several articles during the past couple of days suggesting that schools that are shoo-ins for the NCAA tournament might consider skipping their conference tournament to avoid the risk of COVID exposure that would jeopardize their participation in the NCAAT. While several BE teams will be guaranteed spots in the tournament, Nova is likely to be the only one guaranteed a 1 or 2 seed. It probably would make sense for Nova to skip the conference tournament, which would be good news for schools like Butler who might need to win the tournament to get in. Still, I don't think Jay Wright would opt out of the conference tournament.

There's even some talk that some conferences might forego conference tournaments altogether. Here's an interesting article that summarizes the current plans and thinking of many high and mid-major conferences: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nc...19-as-conference-tournaments-loom/ar-BB1cZAdP

I would guess the Big East owes Fox a certain amount of conference tourney games. I think the Big East could squash this skipping idea.
Mess with the money and get the wrath of the conference.

"Sure you got a 1 seed and made the Final Four, earning 5 shares for the Big East. You also lost us 3 million dollars from skipping the tournament. Your share of our post season money will instead be given to other Big East schools."

So many great memories of that joint. Better in the smaller version. The move to the bar/ dance club combo was the beginning of the end. The owner of that joint was creepy though. My gf at the time and her friends ran into him down in FLA during spring break one year supposedly filming Butler girls. Maybe a Pacos version of girls gone wild is out there.

My wife is from StL area and they use the term exactly in that way. It’s the regional equivalent of white trash. I like to remind her occasionally that she’s lived here longer than that now so she’s an official Hoosier

Yup. My sister went to SLU and was pretty surprised when she first heard it in that context.

East St Louis maybe. Larry Flint's and Casino Queen...Lord love East St Louis.

St Louis itself...near SLU is kinda tight. And the hill has great food (if you like Italian, which, I love).
