Everyone is on the right track regarding formal positions not being particularly important . . . provided you're talking about top 75 recruits and all conference veterans. BU needs great players if they want to compete nationally and be a top Big East team. We can't depend on recruiting lightning in a bottle if we aspire to be a top 40 program. It's great to reminisce about how we outsmarted " insert name here" for "Mark Sheldon", but the truth is that kind of recruiting is unsustainable. The Dawgs can't concentrate their recruiting focus on anybody outside the consensus top 150.
That's a hell of a gif. Major props. But I would dispute what you're saying a teensy bit. Maybe on defense you have a guy who you want to be a rim protector, but the emergence of high volume pick and rolls has really changed what we think of when we think of a center. You can't be plodding anymore. As far as guards go, Roosevelt Jones was not a pg. but he handled the ball for us. And it worked. Obviously one cherry picked example. But guys that are just basketball players have never been more in demand regardless of fit at a position. Just find skills and and athleticism. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
What you are describing has always been the case. You are getting hung up on stereotypes that have never held true in all circumstances. Great players have always found their way onto the floor, even if they are non-traditional at their position. The only thing that has changed is the emphasis on 3pt or "at the rim" scoring over mid-range baskets. That has definatley changed the skillsets coaches are seeking, but positions still exist as much as they ever have. Hell, in the late 90's early 00's it became more and more popular to see 3 gaurd/2 forward sets. This is not new.
This just simply isn't true. It's contrary to the logic that analytics would introduce. I'm not naive enough to think I will convince you, or you will even internalize what I'm saying, but you're just wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
The game is evolving quickly, probably more so at the NBA level. Traditional positional roles and lines are becoming blurred and some archetypes are almost extinct (e.g. the hulking, plodding center that ate glass and feasted on trash buckets). Even though the Pacers were playing "throwback" ball at the time, Roy Hibbert went from all star to not-good-enough-to-play-for-anyone in, like, three years.
Perhaps the game is changing because of the three point line and fans liking to watch dunks. Strategies seem to favor pulling the game out and let the athletes drive through open lanes for slam dunks.
Actually I think mid-majors have moved in this direction for decades out of necessity, yet some have been very competitive. I do believe guys that can play will play regardless of what position they may be classified as or how highly rated they may be by one the scouting services, at the college level anyway. Rules changes and the way games are officiated are factors as well. I do like the little I have seen of Tyson.

Damn, we got a lot of work to do...not even a mention with a bunch of teams. Phenom Hoops Interview: 2018 Hunter Tyson Talks Michigan Offer/ Standouts https://youtu.be/uotXiAHYWNM via @YouTube 5:50 AM - 13 Jul 2017
really? I thought it was done yesterday, but I hope you are right. In any case it sounds like Michigan and Clemson are 1 and 2 at the moment with a big gap after Michigan. Thanks for the insight as always Tyler. You hearing anything on the Aaron Henry front? Sounds really tight right now between us and IU
It's got nothing to do with what the fans want and everything to do with the expectation value of throwing the ball through the hoop. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
Y'all comparing this kid to GH are way off base. I've done the relevant research, he has no twin sister. Sent from my iPad using Butler Hoops mobile app
Tyson looks like a player whose early summer performance gained him interest but then several schools pulled back as summer went on. Deciding between Davidson and Clemson, with his report offer list, tells me all I care to know.
Either he never had an offer or it was rescinded? That's not to say he is capable or not of playing and contributing here.
