Didn’t mean to indicate we are out of it. I’ve got enough faith in this staff that if we can get close enough they can sell well enough to close the gap. But that gap needs to get narrower. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
Makes sense. I posted something similar in the Collin White thread but my fear is that we have -- to your point -- a staff that normally excels in recruiting and is good enough to get into the Top 5 of any number of highly-rated recruits, but not enough resources to land the deal. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.
While it's not what I want to hear, I appreciate the insight! Sent from my SM-G977U using Butler Hoops mobile app
Gordon Hayward is wealthy by most standards. He is not Billionaire or 1/2 Billionaire type wealthy where an individual can fund an entire University NIL payola and its kinda chump change for them. I don’t expect him to fund Butler’s NIL. Contribute sure, if he wants to. Even then, from my perspective, he can do whatever with the money he earned. This entire NIL is just another sickening display of Wealth and Greed. I bought tickets again this year. My grandson enjoys the games and in this conference there are many quality teams to see. Thing is, I’ve walked from MLB, NBA, NFL and College Football. A combination of overhype, length of games, and the ever changing team composition. I’m about there for College Hoops. Hard to believe such a great sport is close to ruination. The PGA Tour seems to making an effort to lose me too. Hope not as the 4 Majors are my favorite TV Sporting Events (along with the NCAA BB Tournament). Anyhow, I guess this long ramble is me saying I’m pretty sure I no longer give a sh_t. It is not complicated. Butler is NEVER going to compete in the Big East with the players they can get and they NEVER are going to have the funds to get the ones needed. Butler needs to move to a level it can compete as peers. Period. There is no argument, if you are speaking from the perspective of a basketball fan. If you are speaking from another perspective that believes the Big East provides advantages in excess of what you’d have in say the A10 that it’s worth being DePaul the next 30 years…I guess, so be it
I thought getting Bizjack might have shown this staff could land legit HS talent while being handicapped by their lack of NIL funds. But the 2024 class keeps showing us it appears Bizjack was a one-off outlier. It seems we can land good players in the portal though. I don't get it.
We will see what the talent level of our portal players is. We need to hope it is high enough that they can play well enough, as a team, to outperform their projections. I don't think we were in highly competitive situations in landing them. I hear Title's point, but I refuse to accept that the right people can't get the Indianapolis community to support its only High Major basketball program to a level we need to succeed (especially if it's connected to helping with student applications/enrollment/health of the university, overall). I fully admit it is an uphill challenge, but, if Danko makes it a priority of his, I think it's doable by him, Grant and Brandon, etc al. Based on Thad's speech at AGD, we need $1.2M - $1.5M NIL a year to execute on his plan. Whatever happened to schools not recruiting HS players because of the portal??? Wasn't that supposed to open the door for us to do better with HS prospects... Sent from my SM-G977U using Butler Hoops mobile app
I hate to be the one to say it, but if the gap for NIL money gap hasn’t been narrowed by now, it’s not going to happen. I really wish it was different, but without more wealthy alums, the only way to close the gap is through a major push with a much greater percentage of alumni donating (smaller donors) with Corporate support and wealthy individuals in Indy (not alums) that want a Power conference team that consistently makes the top 25.
Believe the gap can be narrowed and your proposals are in line with what needs to happen. I’ll add a season with more wins and potential for the future will go a long way to narrow that gap. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
This post can be confusing. This is NOT Isaiah Johnson-Arigu, although it was shortly after his visit. Tyler Johnson plays the same position as Isaiah so this might deter Isaiah from choosing VT. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
Saw on twitter he will be picking between Iowa, NW, VT, and Miami soon. From an account covering MN HS hoops.
Lmao. So he visited 5 schools and Butler is the only one that didn’t make us his top 4? Nice… Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops
It goes to show we aren't even in the range of Iowa or Northwestern with our NIL. Based on the lack of response to your most recent AGD challenge, go figure... Our squad better be a lot better on the court than it is on paper in order to pull the nose up!! Sent from my SM-G977U using Butler Hoops mobile app
I don't expect him to come here but this seems like an error. Did he even visit Texas Tech last week like he was supposed to? Northwestern never even had an OV scheduled. Jamie Shaw reported on 8/22: Butler 8/22 VT 8/25 Iowa 9/1 Texas Tech 9/8 Miami 9/15
Looks like NW slipped in and took our spot. More work to do. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
