Wow! I'm sure Nova still will be great, but that is a huge loss for them. With Coach Wright, Nova has been my second favorite team since we have been in the Big East. He's a class act and a great ambassador for the conference. Big loss for the Big East.

Jay wright retiring is crazy news I wonder why or what’s going on Anyone have anymore insight on it? Honestly I think this could Change nova a lot, he in just opinion was top 3 college basketball coach Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
Well, wonder who is gonna be entering the portal from nova in the next 10 days. Sent from my SM-G975U using Butler Hoops mobile app
IIRC Self and Wright are the only active coaches with multiple championships. Huge loss and only at 60. I wonder if we see him back in the NBA or at another huge program soon.
Hiring Thad. Transforming the Roster. And a top coach of a conference rival who has dominated is out. There has honestly never been a better time for Butler to dump more money Into basketball and establish itself as the class of the Big East. Thad can do what Wright did.
It's still weird to think how the Big East is potentially up for grabs now. Butler may not be ready to do that this year, but I do believe eventually this league can be one where we see the likes of Matta, Miller, Cooley and McDermott fighting it out for the conference championship each year, and that's without seeing what Villanova looks like - That's some awesome competition right there The question now is will the Big East ever again have that team that everyone believes is the de facto contender for national titles; that may take some time to figure out...But I like our chances of being in consideration someday.
Imagine going back in time 6 months and telling Big East fans Butler’s coach next season would be Thad Matta, Xavier’s would be Sean Miller, and Nova’s would not be Jay Wright. Things are crazy.
Jay Wright was the best college basketball coach and an honest one. He had nothing more to prove and certainly is very wealthy. Think the college landscape is changing for the worse and he probably doesn't want to deal with NIL and the transfer portal and all the corruption to follow.
