I could definitely be wrong by no means would I bet my next mortgage payment on it- but I'm just saying from what I've heard....from a source that has certainly been wrong...I just wouldn't be shocked if UNC isn't on the top 5.
This guy is right a lot more often than he is wrong. His info is typically reliable. [tweet]763726061842509824[/tweet] I've had some people tell me they think Butler has a decent chance of being top 5. I've yet to see anyone else be so sure of it though. I haven't seen this confirmed anywhere else, but: "UPDATE 8/10: Accordingly to Brian Snow of Scout.com, Wilkes and his family have called off the official visit to UNC." This is from an article at northcarolina.247sports.com. Don't think that means much of anything for Butler. And he could just be re-scheduling and UNC is still in his top 5. I'm going to blow a gasket if he lands at Xavier though.
If UNC and Kris Wilkes really are going their separate ways, do we put Washington or UCLA as the new favorites for a landing spot or does this open up IU or X as potential leaders? Any relationship between Wilkes and Scruggs that could indicate them both going to X?
They may just be rescheduling for a football weekend. It's an interesting development though and would likely put IU in the drivers seat.
Jerry Meyer gave a Crystal Ball vote for UCLA yesterday, FWIW. Why anyone would choose to play for Alford is beyond me. UCLA has done well getting some guys to the NBA recently, though.
I had yet to see those reports. Guess it's a good thing I didn't find anyone willing to take me up on that bet. Very curious to find out the story there. Cancelling an official visit that isn't the cause of a commitment elsewhere or the spot being taken is rare. I still don't think he goes to Butler, but I will say without UNC in the picture (assuming those rumors are accurate, which they might not be) I don't think the odds are 0. Still think it's going to be rescheduled, but without the official visit schedule it becomes at least not crazy to think they'll be left out of the five. Because I feel like keeping the irrational-fan hype train chugging: One of Kris' most recent follows on twitter is rick lewis.
That's probably because Lewis invited him to the Indiana Top 80 recently. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
no IDIOT it's because he's coming to butler. Kidding, of course. I bet that's probably right. It's been briefly touched on in this thread and others, but someone help me out: In the last three seasons, Washington has averaged about 6500 in attendance per home game. (The school has ~9 times the number of students Butler has and the metro area has about twice as many people as Indianapolis). It has not finished better than eighth in the Pac-12 since 2012, and it hasn't had a team ranked inside the top 55 in Kenpom since 2011, which is also when it last made the dance. The arena in which they play is old, but not particularly cool or historic, and it hasn't been renovated in close to two decades. The athletics training center, while nice, is nothing remarkable from what I can find (I found where there was a proposed basketball training center a few years ago, but can't find that anything was ever actually built). The program has an average or below average history for a high major. The climate is not a draw. The school is solid academically but nothing earth-shattering. Despite all of this, its latest three recruiting classes have featured 6 four stars and 2 five stars, and they're showing no signs of slowing down. How long until sanctions?
If you want to jump on that train you could take this tweet to mean that everyone else recruiting Wilkes is wasting their time because he's joining Neese at Butler. [tweet]758391003149656064[/tweet] Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
Had not seen that. My mind immediately jumps to the conclusion that the tweet means butler is in better shape than anyone thinks, but I'm telling myself that that's really wishful thinking. But really, what else could that mean? We don't understand how good he (wilkes) is?
Guess I was right jus sayin. X in better position than most realize. Not leader by any means but in it.
At the time I assumed it meant we didn't understand how big that offer was for Wilkes. I'd talked to IU people before that and the consensus seemed to be they thought IU had a decent chance as long as UNC or Kentucky never offered. A lot of people thought those were his top 2, and if either offered it was over for everyone else. So I thought Neese was basically reacting to Wilkes getting one of the offers he really wanted. I don't know if the info I had was wrong, or if something just drastically changed, but whatever the case my feel on this recruitment is certainly off at the moment. I mostly agree with the above and even though it's probably immaterial to this particular situation (Wilkes), UW is a fantastic school and I think quite a few people enjoy the climate. Obviously, recruits go about their college search with a diverse set of desires and varying degrees of vigilance. With that being said, I don't think any of us would be surprised to find that some decisions are surely quite shallow. I truly believe that the overwhelming majority of high major recruits consider the basketball situation far more intensely than the academic one, which is pretty tragic, considering that most won't play basketball beyond college.
