Anyone up for sharing their #1 song from Spotify 2020 Wrapped? Mine was Only Children by Jason Isbell, a dark song for a somber year.

I don't use Spotify, but my music app tells me the song I listened to most was Tyler Childers " A Long Violent History."

His mother told him someday you will be a man
And you will be the leader of a big old band
Many people coming from miles around
To hear you play your music when the sun go down
Maybe someday your name will be in lights
    Saying "Johnny B. Goode tonight"

“Where Rainbows Never Die”, by The Steeldrivers. Love me some Chris Stapleton. They played like clockwork at the Station Inn, in Nashville, which was literally less than a block from our place. $10 a seat and pizza, stale popcorn and beer for dinner.

    I miss that town.

Nashville now will be $10 to get in line and another $20 to get in the door to pay $30 for 2 beers and stale popcorn.

I've been spending a lot of time listening to Arlo McKinley's album "Die Midwestern" lately. If you haven't heard Arlo yet (which admittedly I've only been aware for a few months), he is a singer songwriter from Cincinnati that was discovered and signed by John Prine. The song writing is impeccable, and the music is just heavy and crushing as he works through problems from relationships, addiction, and identity. Give it a listen.

Not sure if it has been brought up yet.

Black Pumas is a band I have been loving the last week as have all my coworkers.

"Die Midwestern" is a very good album. It's no coincidence that it ended up on a bunch of the Best of 2020 lists. I first checked out Arlo McKinley after hearing Tyler Childers give him props in an interview and I haven't been disappointed.

The Black Pumas are great. I mentioned upthread that I'm kind of amazed how much good music is coming out of Texas right now, especially if you're into that country/Americana/roots sound. And they're a big part of that current Texas sound, to me.

In the same vein as the Black Pumas and Arlo McKinley, I've been listening a lot lately to Brent Cobb's "Keep 'Em on They Toes," and Steve Earle's new tribute album to his son, "JT". Both are really good albums.

You all should listen to the Sound Exploder episode with Black Pumas - Colors, really good.

    Added to my playlist yesterday:

Greta Van Fleet - "My Way, Soon" (a band out of Michigan)

Jason "Rowdy" Cope of the Steel Woods passed away this weekend. Much too young and a true talent. He was the founder of the steel woods the last few years and played guitar with Jamey Johnson for 10+ years. Here's one of my favorite recorded memory.

That’s some good stuff right there. Always dismissed later years but have recently been listening to a good deal of the spring 90 run.

Caribou “You and I” on Suddenly. got most play for 2020.

another was “Dinosaurs on the Mountain” from the new Flaming Lips album, which made my toddler boy happy bc of well dinosaurs and them being on a mountain and all.

Right now, I’m digging Thundercat’s album It Is What It Is. probably his best. & I love both Drunk and Golden Age of Apocalypse. Then, just started listening to Kamasi Washington... & whoa. Amazing.
