I stand corrected. He was offered by Stevens, committed to Miller on May 27,2014 and signed by Holtmann. Proof positive that it had everything to do with the basketball program and nothing to do with the coaches or the university itself. Thanks Karen for correcting me again. Not sure my life would be complete without you.

I Am Butler- Sorry for putting this under the Elijah Bryant thread but Karen and UD didn't put comments about Fowler elsewhere.

On a different note, if I was a hooper out of commission for a year with a foot problem, I'd probably get really good at FTs. Hopefully he has hit the charity stripe hard the last year.

At the end of the day, none of us can have any clue how this is going to pan out. I can't think of a recent BU recruit with a bigger question mark over their head than this guy. Can his body hold up? Does the year off make him a year or two away developmentally from even seeing the floor, injuries aside? Even if the injury and year off hasn't slowed him down, was he good enough to begin with to see minutes in the BE? No clue, and there's a real lack of good video for this guy. He could be spectacular and he could never play. We simply don't know what we're getting. It's kind of exciting.

Hinkle: Interesting tidbit My work partner & golf partner of many years was MVP for Butler in 1956. He had a grandson who was a 3 pt specialist at plymouth HS. A couple of years ago the grandson challenged grandpa to a free throw shooting contest. The kid hit 29 of 30 & got beat. To add insult to injury grandpa switched to left handed & hit 25 in a row. He is also not bad with his eyes closed. hopefully the new kids can shoot FT also. tc

Well then Insane is right, he sure as hell didn't commit because of the coach.

No he committed to Butler because of the basketball program and not for the academics or location unlike kids who pick Kentucky purely for the quality of education they will get. :)

Your quips ignore the fact that his decision came down to Dayton, West Virginia and Butler. This was obviously the biggest factor in his decision.

The fact that he liked the location and academics and the food at Atherton and the stroll past star fountain are all things that just made the decision easier.

Actually according to the Cinncinati Enquirer on May 28, 2014 said he had dozens of offers and his final three choices were Dayton, Butler and Davidson. Michigan was not in his final three even though they were hot after him. West Virginia and Miami had also offered but did not make the final three. The biggest factors are as I previously highlighted and as his parents said at the time after visiting Butler several times. West Virginia, Miami and Michigan were not what he and his parents apparently wanted. Guess he didn't love big time football but loved the turnover in coaches.

Hinkle- Just having a friendly discourse!

So we are now into September. Who has seen Fowler in workouts and how does he look? Is he totally healthy?

Great questions. I don't think any answers are known yet. My guess is the staff gives him days off when practices start in October. IMO cautious, conservative is the way to go here. I wonder how much basketball Fowler has actually played yet?

Again, I want a 23 yr old Nate Fowler playing 30+ minutes a night, not a 19 yr old Nate Fowler playing every 4th game.

    -----------

Tom stumping for a redshirt year for Fowler. Simply can't do that. You need Fowler's SIZE this year. He is definitely equipped to help this team.

Agreed. This team has some very special pieces this year and Nate can help get us where we want to be. The way this staff appears to be recruiting I'm not as concerned about 4 years from now.

Agreed. There's no way we make it through the Big East without some serviceable minutes from Fowler this year. Wideman and Chrab will be in foul trouble at times. May only be 5 mins here and there but no other option at this point.

Didn't Tom try to say this last year too? That argument could be made for every player. Doesn't make much sense having Fowler and Brunk in same class as well, in addition to what others have already said about needing him this year.

I know he picked up three fouls in three minutes, but Fowler showed that he can play at this level. I was really impressed with his basketball IQ and his three was as big as any shot in the game. He was thrown in there against the top frontcourt in the nation and he showed that he could play with them. I'm sure Holtmann told him to scrap his ass off, so I'm not too concerned with the 3 fouls. We are going to need Fowler to continue to come in and be a big body off the bench. He keeps earning my confidence. He doesn't look lost on the floor. A stretch 5 with a high basketball IQ, I can't wait to see how he develops over the next four years.
