So what's the verdict on Oklahoma? For real or not? That's a tight score.

WM was winning all game. I didn't come away from that impressed with Oklahoma at all. If we play them we are the better squad right now.

For what it’s worth, W & M won at Wofford by 1 right before the Terriers came to Hinkle.

Something called Merrimack has a big lead early at Providence.

Providence up 5 at half, up 26 with 5 minutes to play.

Interestingly, 3 of the 4 top scorers are subs. Alpha Diallo has no fg attempts and only 2 free throws. I wonder if Coach Cooley pulled the trick that he did at Hinkle a few years ago when he benched 4 starters at the beginning of the second half after they played so poorly in the first half. Played much of the second half with Kris Dunn and 4 subs as Providence came back and beat the Dawgs.

Looks like Providence roasted them in the second half. Was still really startled to open the score an hour or so ago and see Providence way down to a team I honestly didn't know was in Division I.

I thought it was highly unlikely Merrimack was doing the Spring Training split squad thing, and playing BOTH Providence and Northwestern, so I checked. Turns out it was Radford who played Northwestern. Radford won 67-56. They had a 17-0 run. How the heck did Providence lose to Northwestern?

It's become something of a Cooley tradition, losing to a god-awful non-conference opponent despite having an NCAA Tournament quality team.

In the 2016-2017 season, they lost to Boston College - BC went 2-16 in the ACC that year, and 9-23 overall. Still made the NCAA Tournament.

In 2017-2018, they lost to UMass. UMass went 5-13 in the A-10 that year. They also lost to Minnesota in 2017-2018, and Minn went 4-14 in the Big Ten that year. Providence still made the Tournament.

In 2018-2019, Providence lost to UMass again. UMass was even worse last year, going 4-14 in the A-10 and 11-21 overall. Providence still made the dance.

And here we are in 2019-2020, and Providence has already lost to a Northwestern team that got beat Merrimack, a program that wasn't Division 1 until this year, and Radford,

It's remarkable, and it's really pretty damning on Cooley's ability to get players to not overlook "lowly" opponents.

I have always thought Cooley could recruit, but not much as a coach. He likes to perform on the sidelines and is a pretty good interview. He didn't do much with
a talented Big East All Star team in the Pan Am Games.
