I thought we could use a new thread for recruiting heading into this summer. With the most recent offer of David Joplin, I have updated my recruiting "Big Board" for Butler in the 2021 recruiting class. This piece includes breakdowns on the two in-state commits, the presumed four biggest targets, and some words on potential names to monitor over the coming months. I will be updating this piece as any news arises.

Additionally, I thought I would put together a scholarship chart for the future. As things currently stand, I am keeping Jordan Tucker in his slot but that could obviously change as early as the next few days or could stay the same. I'm leaving open the possibility of him keeping that last scholarship until we know otherwise for sure. I will also update this chart as any changes occur.

CHART LAST UPDATED: May 28th after the addition of Bo Hodges.

As always, let me know if I made any mistakes as I'm sure I did somewhere :p.

Good job Lucas. Fortunately the Dawgs have a good jump on 2021 considering how difficult it is to recruit in the current environment,

Oh come on! Bleep Rona and d$#@%%# self!

I had the Title and the Gif all thought up already for this year... I just didn't make the thread bc well there was not a whole lot happening... (unless determining the burbs of Chicago counts?)

Building upon last year's the Summer of Lavall this year was set to be Recruiting Notes 5.0 (The Summer of the Hazmat Suit)

Anyone seen both Pouly and Barnhizer play? I was starting to warm up to the idea of Barnhizer but opinions of Pouly are resurfacing. I've not seen either play, but I was getting the impression that Barnhizer is a more complete player. Valid or no?

Barnhizer is sound. BU has some really good options moving forward.

Tate being 197 is comical. Kid has one of the best 1-on-1 games in the class. Good passer, quick, decent shooter from deep.

How Tate wins Mr. Basketball and ANOTHER state title and drops 38 spots is beyond mind-boggling. Meanwhile his team PJ Hall jumps up and remains a mainstay in the top 70. Now I will acknowledge Hall is better but he's not 100 spots better than Tate. I have no doubt in my mind this class is going to come in with a chip on their shoulder and prove the morons at 247 wrong. I've lost a lot of respect for Evan Daniels...used to think he was pretty spot on but he's really become a cartoon these past few years.

I think this is a pretty good example of money talks. Again rankings are always going to be subjective and it behooves these sites to rank targets from bigger teams higher to get the clicks.

I'm not too concerned, but it is depressing to see all of the recruits (for the most part) drop once they commit to Butler.

That said, I didn't realize that we still have 3 scholarships for 2021... we are going to be really young that season. With likely only one upperclass starter. I can see now why LJ is looking for a sit one, play two for the Tucker spot.

Right. Who cares what they’re ranked? The only reason to care about ratings is a source of confirmation that we’re getting a good player. If you (General) think we are, microanalysis of recruiting rankings is largely pointless.

Looks like the new G-League rules will pay some players up to $500k out of high school, not to mention the endorsements that they will be able to sign.

As a G-League season ticket holder, I find it really dumb that they are all going to play for one team. I was hoping there would be a random lottery as to which teams got each players. This will likely mean that those players will only come to Fort Wayne once, if at all. I'll be sure to make it there for that game, but overall it makes the rest of the G-league kind of a horse and pony show for one team. I get the reasoning behind it, but it still frustrates me. I'll be interested to see how the "showcase team" competes. In my opinion, they won't win many games. The rest of the G-league is essentially college all-stars in their early to mid 20's. The showcase team will basically be equivalent to a Kentucky or a Duke. People underestimate the talent in the G-League, a college team wouldn't have a chance against most of them.

Again, none of these 5-stars were probably ever going to sign with Butler, but we could notice some trickle down effect. It also means more of the players that actually commit to college will be 4-year players which hurts Butler because we are usually the more experienced team in non-conference games. I always loved playing a one-and-done team early in the non-conference season.
