BU is actively making a concerted effort to address the need for shooters. Orme was a 49% (40 of 82) sniper beyond the arc as a sophomore. He may also stand 6'8".

Orme served primarily as 6th man on the defending state champions. At this point that is a verdict which would be unknown. My guess is somewhere in between. He will certainly be expected to have an increased role as a junior. While his athletic ability may not jump off the page, or ever be his primary asset, I still like this offer based on his shooting alone.

I watched his HUDL and he seemed to pretty exclusively a “stand in the corner and shoot” guy. Like quite literally all of his shots were free throw line extended and lower, and every single one was a catch and shoot. He did have one where he came off of a flare screen, but most were just stand still.

His release is pretty quick, he’s certainly tall-but I don’t see a big east player here.

There are certainly offers/interest that I don't like (see Stevenson, Erik lol), but this isn't one of those. Orme has a ways to go in terms of adding weight to his frame (which has already begun to improve), but I am in favor of this offer. He already has the combination of height and shooting ability that does not come along all that often. He's a legit 6-8 and a knockdown shooter. Butler needs a specialist and he can be it; his release is lightning-quick. The program has prioritized versatility, which is certainly a plus that I think most of the fanbase is excited about, but having a true knockdown threat on the court would be huge. Orme has two whole years of HS left and was impressive during AAU as well (a better gauge of who he is than Carmel film). He has legit size, is an excellent shooter, and is an above-average athlete. Adding weight is the key but I see no issue with getting in early here. If he doesn't pan out then he doesn't pan out, but his baseline skill and size warrant at least early interest/offer. I doubt Butler will be the only high-major to offer - shooters always have value. I'd be a tad surprised if IU isn't seriously involved long-term.

Side note: I'm chatting with Orme tonight so should have an interview-based piece out tonight or tomorrow.

Purdue, IU and Iowa are all monitoring in his development. Interest in Orme will only rise.

Orme has visited IU twice including Hoosier Hysteria. Apparently high majors are seeing some potential here.

I think we'll have to disagree on this one. He's going to become a monster. I honestly think the Big East would be lucky to get him. Seems destined for a Big 10 spot. If you watched any of his AAU stuff this summer, I think we may be a little late to the table. Would be ecstatic to get him. His game is really starting to develop, and the shooting skill set is already there. He's a legit 6'8 and may still be growing. He had a pretty sick baseline run reverse slam this summer that showcased just where the blossoming athleticism is coming in. He's going to be really tough to get

If BU is the first high-major to offer, then he's bad. But once IU or Purdue offers, I think we can all agree that the kid is good.

In all seriousness, Butler will always have a hard time recruiting against IU and Purdue and MSU and OSU and UK and all the other powers in our part of the country, so they're going to have to rely on offering kids early and forging those relationships. That's going to result in a lot of offers that make you go "?????" at first glance. I've been pretty pleased by their talent evaluation though.

I haven’t seen the aau tape, and I do only have the two minutes of Hudl to go off off of, so I can concede that there’s plenty I don’t know. If his AAU team uses him differently than Carmel does then there’s even more reason to reevaluate my opinion.

It would be peculiar to have him keyholed into such a limited and specific role at Carmel, but be capable of much more, but it wouldn’t be the first time a high school did such a thing.

I’m worried about Butler overcorrecting too much on their need for a shooter. Whatever shooter they get needs to be able to do more than shoot to be helpful. I consider Sean one of our better players in recent memory, but I think we beat Purdue in Lavall’s first year to go to the sweet 16 if he doesn’t play. He had to learn to overcome his defensive limitations (and he did) before he could become a big time plus for us.

Yeah I haven’t seen any aau stuff. My opinion is based solely on what I saw on Hudl. I saw neither an indication for or against him being able to do much more than he did do in that clip, though he did do the shooting well.

In the Hudl clip he reminded me of Luke Fabrizius who our resident Dayton Flyer fan may or may not remember from about ten years ago.

I certainly do not disagree that a shooter should have ancillary skills. To your Sean point, yeah, he was an excellent rebounder (among other things). As far as Orme goes, he is already 6-8 with a great stroke from distance. Those are the "knowns" in his game. He already has some secondary skills (I think his ball-handling is quite good as is his rebounding, for instance), and those will only improve over the next two years. There are no "sure things" in recruiting, regardless of how much we want them to be, but his baseline is impressive and will garner high-major looks. His skill level is high and I'm not worried about him being one-dimensional, even though his primary skill is potentially elite.

Carmel had two frontcourt players in Brian Waddell (Purdue) and Charlie Williams (William & Mary) that both were upperclassmen last season and are Division-I recruits, as well as another D1 guy on the wing in Pete Suder. Orme will have a significantly bigger role this year and I'm very much on board with offering him early. Two minutes of high school film as a sophomore on a loaded team doesn't tell the whole story at all, in my opinion. I think he is going to get a lot of high-major attention. I watched Carmel several times last season (my fiancee used to babysit the aforementioned Williams haha) plus a few of his AAU games when they popped up in my schedule. I know lots of people speak highly of him as well.

Totally agree that two minutes of high school film doesn’t tell the whole story. That two minutes is all I have seen to evaluate though. (I did look for more)

Certainly willing to acknowledge that there is far more I don’t know about him than I do. It’s an instance where his skillset on that tape was so limited it didn’t indicate either a capability or incapability to do more than what was demonstrated.

Not surprised that he went elsewhere. Getting the impression Thad and the staff are recruiting a different level of player than LaVall and his staff

Thad said last Thursday, in a talk after practice, that in order to be a championship level team we need to recruit some pros and make some of the guys, currently on the roster, pros too. There is so much I like about that mindset!

I also thought I heard him say that he and two other (active?) coaches have coached two national players of the year. I'm guessing Thad's two were David West and Evan Turner but i dont know, for sure. Nonetheless, that can't play too poorly with a recruit.
