What the **** is a billiken? No seriously, does anyone know what it is? I mean is like a bird? Maybe some sort of cross-breed abomination between a bear and pelican? Is it a demon? Why is it white? Why does their mascot look so mischievous? Who knows? This is what the SLU website has to say: The Billiken is a mythical good-luck figure who represents "things as they ought to be." Before he was Saint Louis University's mascot, he was a national sensation, a figure who was reproduced as dolls, marshmallow candies, metal banks, hatpins, pickle forks, belt buckles, auto-hood ornaments, salt and pepper shakers, bottles and more. Umm. OK. He sort of looks like Buddha to me. So yeah, we're playing the mythical good-luck fairies this weekend. Sounds about right. Let's see what kind of look alike talent they have. Jordan Goodwin and Terrence Howard D.J. Foreman and rapper Fat Boy Tramaine Isabell and Anthony Anderson Javon Bess and Common with hair Dion Wiley and Michael Strahan Brandon Courtney and Pete Davidson K.C. Hankton and Borat (is good?) (you're welcome for this particular shot!) Ingvi Gudmundsson and Carlisle Cullen from the Twilight series of movies (I'm ashamed of myself right now) Jack Raboin and Filip Forsberg of my beloved Nashville Predators (sorry hockey players don't smile) Elliott Welmer and Rade from Hoosiers DOBO Chris Tifft and School of Rock (and this season's Survivor contestant) Mike White Assistant Coach Corey Tate and old Ice Cube Assistant Coach Van Macon and rapper Ice T Head Coach Travis Ford and old Ron Livingston As always, GO DAWGS!!!!
Awesome job...as always. Won't even knock you for the #smashville reference (Go Blues). I remember 100 years ago (not really...but it feels like it) when the Billikens played the Salulkis of SIU on ESPN. Game was midnight local time and both teams said ok bc they wanted the airtime. First 30 minutes of broadcast talked about the weird mascot names. Sent from my SM-G935V using Butler Hoops mobile app
Ran across this mischievous god or godling or sprite or whatever when I lived in Osaka. SLU pretty much took their name & design from the shrines around town to this local deity. http://jpninfo.com/31185
This is true. I was looking for an old looking Ron Livingston and this was the best I could find. Damn Ron and his good genes. Sent from my iPhone using Butler Hoops mobile app
