Why is Butler not in the Gavitt Games?

Was just watching the Michigan/Villanova game and realized that Butler is the only Big East team not in the Gavitt Games this year. Maybe this has been covered somewhere, but does anyone know why?

Would be a great headlining non-conference game.

Only 8 games each year. This year Butler and DePaul are sitting out. That said Butler has yet to play a Gavitt game

Thank you - hopefully next year. Even a road game might be close enough to drive to!

I thought we played Northwestern one year.

We played Maryland last year and Northwestern in 2017.

Big East teams are guaranteed to be in 6 of the 8 years contracted for the Gavitt Games. Butler has been in 2 of 4, so they are guaranteed to be in it the next 4 years.

DePaul is playing Penn St. tomorrow night. Is that part of the Gavitt games?

Yes. Providence is the other team not participating.

Ah, I guess I’ll tune in to get a look at one of our BE foes.

If any of you decide to watch PSU...

Lamar Stevens is incredible and unguardable. I think he’s an NBA player.
Josh Reeves is a high-energy superathlete who has added offense to his game.
    Myles Dread is a big-bodied, sharp-shooting frosh.
Rasir Bolton is a true frosh guard that can really shoot and get to the rack.

A few other role players but not much else. We need Mike Watkins, our center, back.

I hope they don't give us OSU or Michigan next year. Hoping Wisconsin or maybe Nebraska. Butler has connections with OSU, Mich, & Nebraska. Could realistically see one of them. Also I hope next year it will be home for us. Florida and a Big Ten team at home would be amazing for season ticket holders... :)

Big East vs. Big 12, but I imagine that will be a road game.

Anyone know if all ten schools will participate each year in the Big East/Big 12 thing?

Pretty sure I saw that all teams from both conferences will participate every year. That's gonna be fun.

Well... DePaul isn’t very good, and we flat-out suck.
